Pink Floyd
I have all of a sudden developed a sudden and unhealthy interest obsession in the Gods that are...
Pink Floyd.
David Gilmour on guitar and vocals, Roger Waters on bass and vocals, Nick Mason on drums, and Rick Wright on keyboards.
Together they make the most astounding music known to any form of mankind or any other species.
Gilmour's guitar is ghostly indeed, ethereal, almost another being in songs such as Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Comfortably Numb. His voice makes itself known through a quintessential sort of Britishness that only British people can understand.
Waters is a driving and forceful songwriter. Not many people can be credited with writing a song as powerful as Hey You, or a song as cynical and critical as Money. He isn't the world's most special bass player perhaps, but he more than makes up for it with lyrics and sheer power.
Mason's drumming is special indeed. Not many people can put claim to having a drum trademark, and those of us who have heard the Floyd will know what I mean. He isn't a virtuoso but it doesn't matter-he gives Comfortably Numb and so many other masterpieces a real backbone.
Wright's keyboards make Pink Floyd. Astronomy Domine would not be the same at all had it no synthesiser, nor would Shine... . His high vocal harmonies compliment Waters' and Gilmour's perfectly, and if it weren't for him Pink Floyd would have no edge, no special quality.
Gods indeed.
