The suspected aggravated assault of an eight-year-old child has shocked the western city of Vaasa.
The young child suffered serious injuries on Sunday after drain cleaner was allegedly poured over them. Police are investigating the incident as aggravated assault.
Two minors are suspected in the incident that took place in the yard of Variska school, which the victim also attends.
One suspect, who is under 18, has been detained, while the other, aged under 15, is below Finland's age of criminal responsibility.
On Monday, police also discovered two bottle bombs in the same area.
Helsingin Sanomat reports that the victim's parents arrived in Finland as quota refugees from South Sudan and have lived in Finland for 20 years.
The parents told HS that while they consider a racist motive behind Sunday's incident possible, there is no evidence to confirm such a motive.
They, however, said they regularly encounter racism in their daily lives, describing how a group of young people living nearby make Nazi salutes and spit at them when they meet.
