Biography
Samuel Stow was born about 1645, possibly in Roxbury, Stow, or Concord, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1] His birth has not been found the Concord Vital Records. The Stow Vital Records give his birth in 1645 as husband of Elizabeth, so it seems to be a later record, leaving this birthplace questionable.[2] Roxbury records have not been located.
He was the son of Thomas Stow and Mary Griggs according to Shattuck[1] and Savage[3], but no birth date or place is mentioned. He is missing from his father’s Will of 1683/4.[4]
The Stow family sold their property in Concord, and moved to Connecticut about 1650, Samuel returned to Concord. He was in Marlborough before 1684. He was also one of the proprietors of Ockoocangansett plantation purchased of the Indians. He became a prominent man in the propriety and in the town. He served in Philip's war (1675-6) and probably came to town soon after the peace as his name appears on a petition for the plantation in 1677.[1]
