William Spring (bef. 1843 - 1935)

Biography

William Spring the son of William Spring and Sarah Gavan, was born in Ireland. He was baptised on 13 May 1843 in the parish of Borrisokane, which is in County Tipperary and in the Diocese of Killaloe.^[1][2]

At the age of 18, he migrated to Australia on the ship 'Electric' with his sister Frances, arriving 24 December 1861.^[3][4][5] A year earlier, their older brother John had arrived in the colony.^[6]

William was a teacher.^[7]

On 17 April 1873, he married Helen Charlotte Sheppard at St. Patrick's Church, Ballarat.^[8][9] They had seven children, all born in Ballarat:

In 1889, William and his family decided they would leave Ballarat and he put their family home, a six bedroom brick villa on Lyons Street with stabling for two horses, up for sale.^[22]

William died on 26 August 1935 in Hawthorn, Victoria, aged 92 years.^[23][24][25] His remains were interred at the Boroondara General Cemetery in Kew, Victoria.^[26]
