John Markham Cross (abt. 1842 - 1927)

Biography

There is doubt about the parentage. Some have his birth as in 1838. His age at death from most sources is 85 or 86, giving a birth date of around 1842. There are several John Cross's born around this time.

The John Cross who was born in 1838 to Edward and Margaret was likely the one who died in 1878 (parents: Edwin and Margaret) and cannot be the John Cross who married Eliza Wall as he was still alive in 1917.

The obituary of his son in law, Samuel Mason, says he was still alive in 1917 at the age of 85.

NSW BDM gives his age at death as 85 (in 1927).^[1] His Obituary gives his age at 86.

• Mr John Cross, a former well known and most highly esteemed resident of Burrundulla, died at Tamworth on Wednesday last, at the great age of 86 years. Mrs. S. Mason (daughter), of Church St., Mudgee, was present when the end came. To the beraved ones we extend deepest sympathy.

John's middle name is given as Markham in the BDM record for the death of his son, George. His grave inscription also gives his middle name as Markham.
