Why you need to be live on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter
We all know just how hard it can be to do something in real time mode. It can seem rather intimidating and at the best of times might make you slightly nervous. But going live is one of the best ways to spread the word about your business or your idea.
Think of it like this, you will be talking directly to your audience and that is more powerful than anything.
But worry not, as I am now going to walk you through and show you exactly what my top tips are when it comes to going live.
Ok so enough talk – let’s start with some action.
Adding value
Maybe I am stating the obvious here, but live videos need to add value. There is no real point in shooting a live video, which is just an offshoot of something that could be read online – correct?
So please take a few moments to think about what you are trying to achieve and what you want your audience to get out of this. Try as much as possible to add value and to add some form of excitement to your presentation.
It’s these types of live presentations that do the best by far.
Plan, plan and more planning
If you are worried about live nerves, as most of us are when we first start off, planning is definitely the best way forward.
Why not write a brief outline of exactly what it is you will be sharing and exactly what it is you will be talking about and demonstrating.
Make sure that your outline includes specific actions like screen sharing or demonstrating.
This will enable you to feel more comfortable and will allow for a much smoother live presentation.
Make sure that you tell a story
Again, maybe I am being too obvious here, but this does matter and very much so.
Why not go back to the basics if you are stuck.
So, it’s the beginning – the middle – and the end. A much better option than mumbling on and on with no real structure in place.
Go live with your work colleague
Still feeling nervous? Doing this together is another great way of killing those nerves. Pair up with one of your work colleagues, or even try conducting an interview. These are all super ways of preventing pre-stage nerves.
Practice with a friend or even go to coaching classes
Ok, so you are still very nervous, at the thought of doing a live presentation online, it’s not something that you really aspire towards? Going to classes on how to talk publicly or even going one on one with a public speaking coach, is just another way of building your confidence.
You will find that it will help you and teach you simple strategies, including killing those nerves and better presentation skills.
Test your connection before going live
Look at it like this – you are all ready to roll – you have killed those nerves, or at least tried to quash them. Then your connection just before you start fails!
Make sure you’ve checked that everything works well prior to going live.
It’s all about flexibility
Try not to get too heated or upset if things go wrong. It can and does happen. Even when you have tested and retested, things do go wrong, so try to keep a cool head and adapt.
To sum up
Going live can be scary and no matter how many times you have practiced, those jitters can still be there. Take your time to prepare and ensure that you have everything in place for a smooth presentation.
Unfortunately, they do say that the best form of practice is actually doing it live!
What’s that old saying? Practice makes perfect?
Let us know how you get on and how your first live video presentation goes.
Daryl, thanks for sharing!
