Set to begin construction in the summer of 2024, the Columbia-to-Kingdom City segment of MoDOT’s Improve I-70 Project marks a significant step in enhancing Interstate 70.
Led by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) statewide, this initiative aims to cultivate transportation infrastructure that prioritizes not only safety and efficiency but also fiscal responsibility and environmental sustainability. As outlined by MoDOT, The Improve I-70 Project concentrates on the following objectives:
- Providing a third lane of travel for both eastbound and westbound I-70 for approximately 200 miles between Blue Springs and Wentzville
- Improving the interstate while modernizing the existing pavement and bridges
- Increasing the efficiency of freight movements along I-70
- Minimizing construction impacts with a focus on work zone safety, communication and construction staging
- The expansion of a diverse workforce through the creation of jobs
The State of Missouri has allocated significant resources to this extensive project expected to span four to five years. For ongoing updates and comprehensive details regarding the Improve I-70 Project, visit the Missouri Department of Transportation website.
