Logo (April 21, 1989-March 23, 2003)
Visuals: On a green (original Game Boy) or white (Game Boy Pocket) background, the Nintendo wordmark in black (or dark green) with a registered trademark symbol to the top right of the "o", slowly moves toward the middle from the top of the screen.
Variants:
- Early revisions of the original Game Boy do not contain the registered symbol next to "Nintendo."
- On some bootleg software released for the Game Boy, the bootleg group's name scrolls down instead of "Nintendo." Examples include Gowin, V.Fame, Waixing and Fiver Firm.
- If the cartridge is not inserted, the Nintendo logo is replaced with a black rectangle, however the registered trademark symbol is still intact.
- If the cartridge isn't all the way in or is corrupted, the Nintendo logo is a mess of pixels, or will be missing a few pixels (all of it needs to be intact in order for the game to start).
- On Hudson Hawk, after the animation, the "Nintendo" text explodes into "POWER" (in the game's custom font).
- On X (エックス), after the animation, the word "presents..." wipes in below the Nintendo logo. After this, both the Nintendo logo and the "presents..." text disintegrate, segueing into the title screen for the game. This is kept intact when playing this game on a Super Game Boy, Super Game Boy 2, Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance.
- On several games, the logo stays on-screen for a second longer before the game starts. Known examples include Mole Mania and James Bond 007.
- On Raging Fighter and Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, the logo fades out to black, segueing into the Konami logo.
- On Turrican, the player character falls on the "Nintendo" text, moving it down.
- On The Pagemaster, after the animation, the Nintendo logo splits into two "ghost" logos, with one scrolling up and the other scrolling down.
- On RoboCop 2, after the animation, the "Nintendo" text bounces off the screen and fades into the game's copyright info with a wavy Ocean Software logo.
- On WordTris and WordZap, after the animation, the "Nintendo" text slides even more downward until it is offscreen, and the copyright of the respective game slides up from below in its place.
Technique: Sprite animation.
Audio: A two note "bling" sound (akin to the sound of collecting a coin in the Super Mario series) when the logo stops in the middle. Composed in C major.
