Title: from what we cannot hold the stars are made
Fandom: B∆STILLE
Pairing: Dan Smith/Kyle Simmons
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1000
Summary: It's been one hundred days.
Notes: As per usual: please for the love of god and all of our dignities do not share/send this to any of the people depicted within. That would just be embarrassing for everyone involved. On a similar note: don’t google yourself, kids.

This is a fake picfor1000 story because I didn’t have my shit together and totally missed signups, but I love doing it so I picked a photo that fit within the parameters of the challenge. (I swear it’s 1000 words—google docs never seems to match up with AO3 for whatever reason.)

A million thanks as always to lynnmonster for never failing to make my writing infinitely better. Thanks also to maladyofthequotidian for helping me figure out some verb tense stuff. It’s all written in present tense because I’m trying to be ~experimental~. Lynn wanted me to change the scenes that take place in the past, so if they don’t work, it’s entirely my fault.

Devin is an original character, because I have no idea who the other half of Tyde is and like to imagine that they’re a queer black woman.

I listened to a few songs obsessively on repeat while writing this, and they pretty much set the mood for the entire story, so if you’re interested, I made a playlist on soundcloud.

The title is a line from “Youth” by W. S. Merwin.

Title: i've never felt my heart like this
Fandom: B∆STILLE
Pairing: Dan Smith/Kyle Simmons
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 5,059
Summary: “‘My quiff makes them panties drop,’ or, Kyle finally accepts that fans aren’t the only ones obsessed with Dan's hair,” by Kyle Simmons, age twenty-four and a half.
Notes: I can’t believe I actually fucking wrote this. (The working title was “SO MANY *FACEPALMS*”.)

Please for the love of god and all of our dignities do not share/send this to any of the people depicted within. That would just be embarrassing for everyone involved. On a similar note: don’t google yourself, kids.

Thanks as always to the amazing and lovely lynnmonster for continuing to beta for me even though I disappear for months on end and send her stuff in weird fandoms. Thanks also to recherchereveperdu for love and encouragement. <3

This has not been Britpicked, so if there are any horrendous errors, please let me know. If you have no idea who these dudes are and need visuals, you should go through my Bastille tag on tumblr. (◕‿◕✿)

Fandom: Sunshine (2007)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Robert Capa, Mace (Sunshine), Cassie (Sunshine), Searle (Sunshine), Corazon (Sunshine), Trey (Sunshine), Harvey (Sunshine)
Additional Tags: Ensemble Cast, Alternate Universe - Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies
Summary: We're more than stardust.

I was actually REALLY excited when I got matched on Sunshine; I really, really loved this movie, mostly for the quiet moments and the stark beauty and existentialism that always comes with sci-fi space films, so I was really pleased that my recipient wanted something along those lines.

This was my first gen/ensemble fic that I'd ever written, and writing it made me realize how difficult it is for me -- I'd never previously thought of myself as a romance writer, but apparently it is REALLY hard for me to write when there isn't a main pairing. I'm pretty happy with what I turned out, though it was mostly under the panic of BEARS. It's a lot more lighthearted than I thought it would be initially (I mean, it's a Nobody Dies AU), but that's the kind of head space I was in.

Fandom: The Losers (2010), Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
Pairing: Aisha al-Fadhil/Jane Carter
Rating: R
Word Count: 1000
Notes: I've wanted to write this pairing since I saw this amazing gif set of Zoe Saldana and Paula Patton being badass spies in love. I ended up writing it for [livejournal.com profile] picfor1000. I'm only *mumble mumble* seven months late. Prompt photo here, which was more relevant to the story before I had to cut out swaths of it to fit 1000 words (it's 1000 words by Google Docs standards, I swear). Thanks as always to the wonderful [personal profile] lynnmonster, who manages to turn out fabulous betas even after months and years of fic drought from me. Title is technically a lyric from The Rhythm of The Night by Corona, but I'm using the Bastille version.
Summary: Jane catches sight of Aisha halfway through the service, hanging in the back, shrouded in shadows.

I've been pretty much working from the end of last year until now, surprise, surprise, and I've had one day off, spent rearranging my entire room, which was EXCELLENT and I am now very pleased with how it looks.

Summary: It’s a stupid mistake, Cassie knows. It’s a stupid mistake, but Nick doesn’t let it go.

This story has the dubious honor of being the first het story I've ever written, aside from some Hermione/Draco I have jotted down in a forgotten Word file on some long lost computer from when I was in middle school. It is also the longest story I have ever posted, so I'm pretty happy with that. I'm much more pleased with how it turned out than I originally thought I'd be, since I was panicking over plot and pretty much finished it riiiiiiight before the archive went live. Oops.

I already posted about the story I received, but I'm going to post about it again because it is just that fucking excellent.

Some Unexpected Properties of Wood (6897 words) by Fahye/[livejournal.com profile] fahye
Fandom: Brave (2012)
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Elinor (Brave), Merida (Brave)
Summary: Elinor remembered the slow drift from humanity to wild animal, like falling asleep listening to music until only the drumbeat remained.

Seriously, I'm sure it's been recced all over the place already, but go read it if you haven't yet.

I saw The Hobbit some weeks ago with [livejournal.com profile] care_says and [livejournal.com profile] yeah81 and another friend of ours, and, um. This review (via [personal profile] toft) pretty much perfectly describes how I feel about it and is also conveniently hilarious.

It would be unbroken Jerkinshield, except that Thorin is handsome. You can't tell from the promo photos, where they tried to make him look more dwarfly, but the movie knows what it's doing. And though he is already being played by the chisely-yet-determined Richard Armitage, which would take care of most of your handsomeness needs, the movie doesn't want you to ever forget how smokin' the Dwarf Lord is, so it spends all his shots licking his face with light. In the forest? Dappled flicker! Goblin cave full of fire pits? Perfect amber glow! ("It's a trap! I can't believe it! I am so handsome about this.") This comes in handy as a distraction when he's a rampaging jerk, or when he's telling Bilbo to get his whiny ass back to the Shire, or refusing to go to the elves for help because elves are the worst and if you are a wizard who brings him to Rivendell for shelter he's going to be pissed as hell. ("I am so handsome at you right now, Gandalf.")

Other things have happened that I would like to write about, but I need to go be an adult and cook things for myself now so that I don't starve to death.

Rating: G
Word Count: 2050
Notes: This is for [personal profile] celli, the only reason I'd write about taxes. ♥ I had no idea where to start, so she gave me a prompt here. Also, for real, this fic would not have seen the light of day without fantastic, multiple betas by [personal profile] lynnmonster and [personal profile] surexit. It would also have sucked without the both of them. A MILLION THANKS.
Summary: In determining the meaning of any Act of Congress, or of any ruling, regulation, or interpretation of the various administrative bureaus and agencies of the United States, the word 'marriage' means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word 'spouse' refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or a wife.

1. One more for the porn meme from a while back.

2. I only discovered this a couple days ago, which is TRAGIC, because it means that I've unnecessarily gone two months without the preview button on LJ. [livejournal.com profile] soph wrote a Greasemonkey script to get the preview button back and using LJ is that much less annoying.

Writing: I committed old!fic again. *facepalm* I don't know why I have an obsession with finishing outrageously ancient things I've written in fandoms I'm not active in. It's a curse? this is not your fairytale ending (dS, Fraser/RayK, angsty as all hell) was originally posted as a WIP back in February of 2005, and now I've cleaned it up and uploaded it to AO3 for, I don't know, posterity?

dreamwidth: My circle is kind of a mess, so if you notice me granting you access to my journal out of the blue, it's because I'm finally straightening it out.

Music: I haven't shared much music recently, so:

Your Body Is A Machine by The Good Natured (preview on youtube)
(you said your body is a machine / it will break like you've broken me)
I heard a remix of this song last August and became obsessed, and I love both versions in different ways. I was reading XMFC back then and thought, this is the perfect song for Erik/Charles. If only I could vid.

Parachute (Acoustic) by Ingrid Michaelson (preview on youtube)
(won't tell anybody that you turn the world around / I won't tell anyone that your voice is my favorite sound)
I'm not usually a lyrics person--I tend to go for the sound--but this song. As [livejournal.com profile] gyzym said on tumblr, this is my Steve/Tony song. MY EMOTIONS.

Charlie Brown by Coldplay (preview on youtube)
(when they smash my heart into smithereens / be a bright red rose come bursting through concrete)
I unexpectedly LOVE the new Coldplay album. I liked their older stuff well enough, but this is the first time I've unreservedly enjoyed their music. Maybe my tastes have just matured. This is my favorite song off the album.

Brighter Than The Sun by Colbie Caillat (preview on youtube)
(this is how it starts, lightning strikes the heart / it goes off like a gun, brighter than the sun)
I first heard of Colbie Caillat from Pandora when her cover of I Want You Back came on and I fell in love. I like Brighter Than The Sun for totally shallow reasons: it's catchy, it's peppy, it makes me happy.

Michicant by Bon Iver (preview on youtube)
(I was unafraid, I was a boy, I was a tender age)
This is my favorite song from the newish Bon Iver album, which I just adore. For Emma, Forever Ago was saturated with melancholy, but his newer self-titled album is undeniably more upbeat. I listened to it on repeat last summer (when I was detoxing from my last job and finally living with people who I didn't want to strangle and just inexorably happy) and it will always remind me of that time.

Okay. I started this fic in JUNE OF 2007. That's right. OVER THREE AND A HALF YEARS AGO. Jesus. And it's been longer than that since I've posted fic.

Okay, this totally started as a short, short comment-fic idea, and now I've written 1000+ words of Patrick/Spencer, and I am not sure how this happened? I am currently just a little bit obsessed with the idea of Patrick/Spencer, okay? (Don't worry, Patrick/Frank is still my OTP for life, I'm just taking a minor detour.) I know the timeline's screwed up -- e.g. I'm pretty sure Pete signed GCH before Panic, and there are a few other minor things -- but whatever, it just popped into my head, it won't leave me alone. Unbetaed.

Untitled, Patrick/Spencer, 680 words. )

P.S. This is only the first bit, there is more stuff which I will flesh out later, because, see, I have this thing called school and it kind of owns my life and I kind of need to get cracking on the work for it.

P.P.S. Probably an unpopular fandom opinion, but: I did not really like the Heroes finale. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of things I loved about it. But overall? Not really impressed. [waits for the hate]
unfinishedidea: RayK, Seeing Is Believing, dS (feathers + butt ≠ chicken)
It's been, what, over a year now since I've written anything? Which in fandom time is an eon. I started this story, I shit you not, on July 31st, 2005. And then real life happened. It's probably the longest thing I've ever written, which is pretty sad, considering it's just over 2000 words.

Most warning I'll ever give: If you are looking for a story with sunshine and kittens and rainbows? This is not that story.

The Love We Never Gave, due South, F/K, 2121 words. )

Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl and [livejournal.com profile] bohemian__storm for doing awesome, enlightening betas over a freaking year and a half ago (hi, I am the slowest writer EVER), and [livejournal.com profile] lynnmonster for doing a tremendously helpful beta after I finally got around to finishing the damn thing.
