But there's good news – organisations that get digital training right are seeing impressive returns. ✅ What's Working: 🎮 Gamification – Dorset Council UK's use of points, badges and learning champions generated £222,000 in productivity savings 🔄 Reverse mentoring – Tech-savvy junior staff guiding senior colleagues improves not just digital literacy, but productivity and collaboration (PwC) 🎯 Job-specific training – HM Revenue & Customs saw 70% more engagement when they offered on-demand, relevant courses with fewer barriers 💪 Hands-on practice – Active learning outperforms traditional structured training For Earn and Learn Programmes: This is particularly relevant for apprenticeships and earn-and-learn schemes, where younger, digitally native learners can become valuable 'digital champions' whilst developing their own skills. Yet in every organisation there are people who, regardless of title, thrive in the hardest conditions. They have deep relationships with those they serve and work alongside. They are the people others trust and turn to, regardless of title. For change that actually works, these people need to be deliberately identified, meaningfully involved, and listened to — not as a gesture, but as part of how change is shaped and delivered.
