Very exciting news from WPP last week about Cindy Rose joining as CEO in September straight from Microsoft, and a very interesting move from the Group. I've been hearing that across the whole TMT space finance is becoming more automated and much more business-focussed. Cindy’s move to WPP suggests this will continue for WPP. As finance continues to evolve as a function, I expect we’ll see a bigger push for real-time insights over traditional reporting as well as finance playing a key role in shaping business strategy rather than just number crunching💡

At Wilton & Bain, we’ve witnessed how AI has shifted the talent landscape. People with the ability to translate AI into operational and cultural change will be in highest demand. Across my network, many COOs are leading large-scale AI transformation agendas yet the capability gap is widening. Technical implementation often falls to CIOs or Chief Data and AI Officers but success depends on leadership that can connect technology and operations with real business impact. In my view, there are already some outstanding COO x CDO duos in action across financial services but many companies are standing still. It’s been a strong year for our work in the private equity world, especially across AI and data leadership. This week we made another senior placement into a global PE firm’s innovation arm - a Principal AI Specialist role combining strategy with hands-on LLM execution. High-impact remit, Partner-level visibility, and a team that genuinely treats AI as a value lever, not a side project. Earlier this year, we also hit our 17th AI/Data placement with a co-sponsorship PE partner blending investment capability with deep technical work across buy-side diagnostics, portfolio value creation, and sell-side support. Their remit spans operational efficiency, product enhancement, workflow automation, and data-driven commercial strategy. A consistent theme across all these searches: C-suite communication has become non-negotiable. PE-backed environments expect AI leaders who can influence boards, articulate impact in financial terms, and align technical decisions with investment theses. The blend of technical depth + executive communication is now what differentiates top candidates. AI at a Crossroads? As Europe prepares to roll out the landmark EU AI Act, we’re seeing growing pushback from some of the biggest players in tech and industry, calling for a pause or delay in implementation. https://lnkd.in/e4z8Js2R I've recently read 'The Coming Wave' by Mustafa Suleyman: a key theme is the urgent need for containment in emerging technologies. Suleyman argues that as AI systems become more powerful and pervasive, we must proactively build safeguards and governance mechanisms - before the risks outpace our ability to manage them. But here’s the tension: How do we contain risk without stifling innovation? The calls for delay reflect real concerns, especially from startups and researchers, about clarity, competitiveness, and operational burden. Yet, the absence of meaningful guardrails could leave us vulnerable to exactly the kind of destabilization Suleyman warns about. We’re watching a defining moment for how we govern transformative technology. AI is dominating workforce conversations, yet returns remain uncertain, and scepticism is rising.   In a period defined by budgetary pressure and market volatility, TA and HR leaders must answer a critical question: How do we unlock ROI from AI and secure a genuine talent advantage?   Our new research report, based on survey responses from 990 HR and TA leaders, provides practical insights to address exactly that.   Some of the findings that stood out to me: • 78% of companies are using AI to enhance innovation to at least some extent • 74% of companies are actively developing their AI capabilities • Fewer than one in four have a clear AI strategy   My key takeaway? As AI becomes increasingly embedded in workflows, the ability to engage with it critically will determine who pulls ahead.
