Matt Crawford liked thisMatt Crawford liked thisAfter 12 superb years, I handed in my trusty BCG laptop on Friday. My friends there have been lightly ribbing me that after a leaving dinner, separate drinks, and hijacking a couple of work events, I've been on somewhat of a "farewell tour", so I will keep it short in case this opens me up to more accusations of over-sentimentality. BCG is a singularly special place. I could not have enjoyed the last decade and a bit more. Thank you to my clients, teams and friends for making it so formative and rewarding. Your generous words and messages will stay with me for a very long time. It was a very very hard decision to leave, but am incredibly excited for what's next. More on that later, after a couple of months of walking, piano, learning pottery, and spending time with the kids. Quite excited about that too.

Matt Crawford liked thisMatt Crawford liked thisLast month marked two years of working for myself. Which still feels surreal. Both years have been fuller than I expected, and some part of my brain still hasn't caught up to that. Turns out, your relationship with financial security gets built long before you ever start a business, and two years in, I'm still learning to trust the bet I made on myself. Q1 was a full one. I wrapped up a six-month fractional engagement with a high-growth SaaS startup — the kind of role where you show up to a blank page and help build out the entire marketing function, from positioning to pricing, setting up email, a social content engine, a referral program, and paid experiments. It was also one of the first roles where I had access to tools to help me build things I'd never been able to before: performance dashboards, campaign pages, and creative assets. Stuff I'd always briefed other people to build, but had never built myself. Turns out, with the tools that exist now, you actually can. I'm not sure I could have done this role two years ago. That realization has been quietly sitting with me. I worked with a handful of pro bono clients too: underrepresented founders in emerging startups, a community not-for-profit, friends starting their own consulting practices. Work that fills the cup! As for the biggest project of the quarter — I took my mom on a three-week trip across Asia that I'm still recovering from (sorry if you are reading this, mom, love you!!!! 💕 ). Tailor-made itinerary with a Vietnamese coffee lesson, a jewelry making class, yoga mornings, and endless research of restaurants that my mom wouldn't complain about. I have never project-managed anything harder in my life, but the "thank you" at the end made it all worthwhile. Going into Q2 with momentum and a clearer sense of what I want to build. I have room for one fractional marketing leadership engagement, and I'm open to shorter-scope projects — whether that’s nailing PMF, positioning and messaging, or setting up marketing foundations, campaigns, and content engines. Matt Crawford liked thisMatt Crawford liked thisAfter just over a decade in consulting, I am glad to share that I have joined Destinus as Head of Strategy. Five years ago, I wouldn't have anticipated fully shifting from aerospace to defence. Yet with current events this feels like the right step — Europe is at a genuine inflection point, and the need to build real industrial capabilities is quickly becoming a critical priority. Destinus offers an incredible opportunity to contribute to that mission. Still - it's hard to say goodbye to my friends and (relative comfort) at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). It's been a ride that lasted much longer than I had expected when I first joined - and, looking back, it felt like a continuous series of highlights. I am incredibly thankful for the amazing people I had the privilege of meeting.
