Simon Shenton shared thisAfter 12 superb years, I handed in my trusty BCG laptop on Friday. My friends there have been lightly ribbing me that after a leaving dinner, separate drinks, and hijacking a couple of work events, I've been on somewhat of a "farewell tour", so I will keep it short in case this opens me up to more accusations of over-sentimentality. BCG is a singularly special place. I could not have enjoyed the last decade and a bit more. Thank you to my clients, teams and friends for making it so formative and rewarding. Your generous words and messages will stay with me for a very long time. It was a very very hard decision to leave, but am incredibly excited for what's next. More on that later, after a couple of months of walking, piano, learning pottery, and spending time with the kids. Quite excited about that too.

Simon Shenton shared thisRaoul is great on this stuff, worth a 2 minute watch. Was also very interested to read the Departmental allocations - real term increases in DEL for most (large rises in health, education, benefits & local government), and Cabinet Office/ Transport/ Home Office needing to find real term savings next year.Simon Shenton shared thisMany of my conversations with clients over the last few weeks turned to this week's Budget and the desire for clarity both on specific measures and overall tone. Dampening consumer sentiment related to concerns around UK economic performance had been widely reported on and a change in tone was needed to build confidence and unlock spending ahead of the all important holiday season. I sat down with Raoul Ruparel OBE, Senior Director for BCG’s Centre for Growth, to unpack what this means for UK businesses and consumers alike. While many of us in the consumer space will be analysing the details like shifting tax changes on household items, there’s still a bigger question mark about how consumers will react in the coming weeks. Watch our conversation below for Raoul’s full take.

Simon Shenton shared thisAI Insights at a Glance: Part 3 Our last post, and it's time to share a couple of stories. Richard and I take you through two recent experiences of implementing GenAI tools, and what we learned from them. In one project, we used GenAI to simplify a complex service that was driving a lot of 'failure demand' - i.e. calls from citizens saying 'I don't understand what I'm being asked to do here'. My takeaway was how broadly applicable these tools could be across many Government services; something that I think governments need to get better at. In another project developing a GenAI decision support tool, Richard's big takeaway was about the importance of involving all stakeholders throughout development. See more in the video. Thanks for following along, and would love to hear from others - have you implemented GenAI in your government service yet? Simon Shenton shared thisAI Insights at a Glance: Part 2 On Friday we gave our views on the challenges government agencies face in implementing GenAI initiatives. Today, Richard Sargeant and I share our advice for government leaders looking to use this game-changing technology. Advice for Government Leaders Sharing data and creating incentives for doing so is paramount. As with any AI solution, the application will only be as good as the data that serves it. Simon Shenton shared thisAI Insights at a Glance: Part 1 Richard Sargeant and I are working with Governments on some of the first roll-outs of GenAI in public service. With colleagues doing similar work internationally, we've captured what we've learned so far in this rapidly changing space: https://lnkd.in/eppD8cJ2 This video is the first in a three-part series of bite-size answers to some of the questions our clients typically ask. Our view of the biggest challenges? A willingness to 'move fast and break things' (responsibly) and a lack of practical experience; understandable given the nascency of the technology. Both need to be solved by enabling and encouraging experimentation. See the video for more. Simon Shenton shared thisWe've recently been working on some of the first GenAI applications in the UK Government, and from initial impressions and implementations, the potential is massive. This is the first in a series of articles that I've written with digital government colleagues around the world to try and distil this potential and provide some practical advice on how to get after it. Would love to know what you think.Generative AI for the Public Sector: From Opportunities to ValueGenerative AI for the Public Sector: From Opportunities to Value

Simon Shenton shared thisMe and my daughter are best buds. I honestly think a big reason for this is that I took 5 months Shared Parental Leave to be "parent in charge" whilst my wife went back to work. SPL is great, but it doesn't make financial or childcare sense for everyone. That's why it's so great that BCG has just updated its parental leave policy so that parents, regardless of gender, and including those adopting and having kids through a surrogate, will receive 26 weeks of paid leave. This is going to materially improve the lives of a bunch of 'soon to be' BCG dads and mums, and more broadly I hope helps re-balance expectations on who can and should be the primary caregiver for kids in those early months. As part of this expansion, we are investing in hiring additional Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) to help us scale customer AI transformation. While having FDEs is not new for Google Cloud, the demand from customers and partners for Google enterprise AI products and Google engineers to help them embrace agent development is growing very rapidly. Simon Shenton liked thisSimon Shenton liked thisI want Britain to be the best place in the world to start, scale and grow businesses in AI, one of the key pillars that will drive economic growth. With some of the world’s leading universities, deep pools of talent, and the world’s third trillion-dollar tech sector, the UK is already a top-tier destination for innovation. That’s why companies including Google DeepMind, Anthropic, OpenAI and ElevenLabs are continuing to invest and expand here in Britain. Today’s announcement that Fractile, a British AI chip manufacturer, has raised $220 million to accelerate getting its first chips and systems into customers’ hands, is further proof of the strength of UK innovation and our startup ecosystem. I want to see more companies succeed in Britain, which is why as Chancellor, I have made our offer even more competitive: attracting top global talent, launching a tailored service to give businesses confidence to invest, introducing PISCES, a world-first private company share trading exchange, and delivering a three-year stamp duty holiday for newly listed companies. My message to global investors, entrepreneurs and those that want to build for the future is clear - Britain is open for business. https://lnkd.in/eqWfTHG7

Today our #DeloitteYearbook2025 is published capturing incredible stories from across our business here in the UK. I'm incredibly proud of our Technology & Transformation teams, who remain focused on large-scale change and technology implementation - despite the challenging landscape. Together, we're working with our clients to digitally transform organisations, supporting growth and resilience. We're also collaborating with alliance partners to deliver innovative solutions such as embedding AI and strengthening technology foundations for the future. The firm’s £158m investment in technology, as well as the four dedicated UK technology centres we launched in May, underscores our commitment to future-fit client solutions, and this Yearbook reminds us of our collective achievements. I'm looking forward to exploring all the stories and sharing my favourites soon. https://lnkd.in/e5BgySJK #DeloitteUK #TechnologyTransformation Deloitte

The launch of the AI Skills Boost by DSIT, with PwC UK as delivery partner, marks an important moment for the UK’s capability agenda. As public services, local authorities and national bodies look to adopt artificial intelligence safely and effectively, access to high quality skills will shape both the pace and the success of that transformation. PwC’s recent research with more than 500 UK employers highlights the scale of the challenge: • 96% report an AI skills gap • 91% believe this shortfall could negatively affect their organisation • Yet only 31% have fully embedded AI into core processes This makes clear that capability, not technology, is now the defining barrier to progress. The AI Skills Boost helps address this gap. Delivered through the AI Skills Hub, which PwC designed and operates with Innovate UK, the programme provides free foundational training for adults across the country. It contributes to the Government’s ambition to upskill 10 million people by 2030, offering 14 spotlighted courses, including four that lead to a government backed Foundation Badge. Together, these form a structured and accessible pathway into AI capability for the wider workforce, regardless of role or background. For those working across government and the broader public sector, this initiative demonstrates the value of coordinated national action in building the skills needed for responsible and effective AI adoption. It also reinforces PwC’s role as a trusted partner in delivering complex, large scale programmes that support long term public value. The latest PwC UK Hopes & Fears Survey is out and, for TMT, tells a story of optimism, resilience and a readiness for change. What really struck me? 84% of UK TMT professionals have used AI in their roles over the past year, and many are already seeing productivity gains. While a number of industries are trying to drive adoption from low double digits, we're already seeing impact and outcomes. Hats off to TMT leaders here. It's a remarkable achievement in the midst of a lot of negative press about AI (and broader uncertainty) that more than 80% feel satisfied, motivated and safe to experiment with new approaches. It takes confidence and curiosity to promote adoption and build enough safety in teams to try, fail, and try again. Given the high levels of adoption and comfort to experiment, it's less of a surprise to see 81% have learnt new skills in the last 12 months to boost their careers. But this is a really important statistic as it's the combination of continuous learning and empowerment which drive security, trust and business outcomes. The pace of change is extraordinary, but so is the quality of leadership and the capacity of the people in this industry to adapt, innovate and create value. The challenge now becomes maintinaing momentum and retaining talent. PA’s Digital Prevention report shows that 80 percent of NHS leaders believe digital prevention solutions could make a meaningful difference for high‑risk communities. To unlock this potential, the system needs stronger digital foundations - from integrated records to sustained, multi‑year investment. Driving prevention forward will take collective effort, but the opportunity has never been clearer.

We know AI is going to have a huge impact on jobs but do we know where it can make the biggest difference? This fascinating study shows how detailed analysis of tasks per role within an NHS trust identified specific, tangible opportunities to use AI to reduce administrative burden. In patient-facing roles like Midwives, this could provide them with significantly more time to care. How does this relate to my world of Workday? We can use our AI-enabled analysis tool with your Workday job catalogue to provide these insights. And, as usual, the better your HR data, the more effective this type of analysis can be. I presented on this topic at Workday Rising Europe late last year, I’m so pleased to see the research now published. Great work Matthew Yerbury and YiChing Chen! #AI #NHS #DataLed #Workday
