Langdon: But, we're friends, right?
Robby: You're my best resident, big difference.
[Mel approaches Langdon's direct line of sight. Ignores Robby.]
Mel: I have a lethargic 4-year-old in south 15. Also... I'll be your friend.

This is Langdon's last chance to make things right with Abby after she threatened to divorce him and take the kids away but somehow stayed. Yet, he's hanging around the hospital, taking on extra cases, apologizing for being late, looking for Mel, declining (Abby's) calls.
If getting off on the right foot with Abby was priority number one, he should have clocked out right behind Joy. But, how would that work since he's on his redemption tour in the ED? He's making promises to Abby he can't possibly keep.
This also speaks to Abby having unrealistic expectations. What did she think their marriage was going to look like with Langdon being an emergency medicine resident? She had to know his focus would be on that hospital. Did she not sign up for this?
I just learned something I find absolutely disgusting about my boyfriend and I am fucking nauseous about it but need to get him peer reviewed before I completely loose my mind because I am so afraid of over reacting.
HEY CAN EVERYONE TELL SHEILA THAT THIS IS NOT AN OVERREACTION AND THAT THIS IS INSANE AND YOU NEED TO LEAVE HIM YESTERDAY
GIRL, DUMP HIM

The Pitt Scripts: 2x02 original script
Okay so Kingdon recap of the Season 2 scripts Part 1!
For context: the Writer's Guild Foundation Library in LA allows you to visit the library and view any of the scripts that they have. They are only available in person, and you aren't allowed to take pictures, but you're allowed to take as many notes as you want. If you have any questions on this process feel free to hit me up!
I also want to preface this with saying that anything that was cut from the original scripts is not canon, however it's interesting to see what the writers were thinking at one point. It's also interesting to see what was not originally in the script and got added in later on
Let's do the highlight reel in chronological order
thinking about how mel never even wanted or needed an apology from langdon about his absence and was genuinely just happy to have him back in any way she could and wrapped herself around his arm at the mere sight of him 😭
she heard the rumors and didnt care 😭😭
she doesnt think twice about him being assigned to becca, the most important person in the world to her😭😭😭
the girl who is bad at social cues realizes when he’s upset and takes time out of her shift to chase after him to encourage him in the breakroom😭😭😭😭
i am SICK
When Mel said she learned a long time ago not to listen to rumours—growing up so many rumours and untruths were spread about her and Becca. To which her mantra became if you don't have the guts to say it to my face, I don't have time to listen.

The two loneliest people in Pittsburgh took refuge in Mel’s apartment. Frank went along with the charade that the six hours he’d been on her couch watching Netflix and eating Mexican food was just two friends keeping each other company, but the undertones were getting harder to ignore.

News circulated quickly that the two residents most likely to hook up were in fact doing so. Ahmad consoled the betting pool losers in the security office, while Robby tried to keep the ED functioning as per usual. There hadn’t been this much buzz around the Pitt since the rumours about Emma and Mateo dating were confirmed and Javadi started posting TikToks titled Are your work friends really your friends?

Mel had loved ballet since she was a child and imagined being Clara in the Nutcracker every Christmas. Any hopes of being a professional dancer herself were dashed when more than one instructor informed Mel that even though she could develop strength and flexibility with time, her grace and musicality were limiting and her feet were just bad. Which was okay because Mel didn’t foresee a life squeezing her toes into pointe shoes, when in the grand scheme being a scientist was her primary goal anyway.

“It’s breathtaking,” Mel gasped.
They had stopped paddling, the canoe idled on Cypress Swamp. They took in the expanse of still blackwater and vibrant wildlife, the perfect backdrop for quiet reflection.
“This is my favourite place in the whole world,” Frank said.
“Did you come here with your wife?” She asked.
Frank nodded, almost shy to admit it, like he was doing something wrong with Mel. He’d lost Abby to cancer only two years ago. Brought her to this very spot when he was courting her.

It’s not that they were a tough crowd, just naturally mistrusting of the woman who wasn’t their mother occupying their Dad’s attention when he could be paying full attention to them. Tanner and Penny didn’t act out, but their penetrating eyes and suspicious stares asked a lot of silent questions. Why is Daddy’s friend here? They were kids after all who hadn’t learned how to mask their feelings. Mel honestly liked that about children. You knew exactly where you stood with them.
So when they all piled into Frank’s Nissan Rogue for a trip to the Aquarium, Day 1 of Mel spending time with Frank’s kids was underway. Tanner and Penny were excited to see the seahorse and jellyfish exhibits. On the drive, their curiosity about the interloper sitting in the passenger seat helped them pass the time.

“Becca’s excited,” said Mel, fingertips stroking his jaw. “She has a present for us that I know absolutely nothing about.”
Curled into Frank’s chest, his thumb skimmed over the bare skin between her sweater’s hem and her waistband.
“Only mildly terrifying,” he laughed, lips still pressed into her temple.
The plan they’d formed had taken some maneuvering. Mel wasn’t a fan of the holidays, averse to celebrating much since their mother passed ten Christmases ago. It all felt like going through the motions, but she did what she could for Becca’s sake; wrapped what she could afford, played Bing Crosby classics on the radio, watched Elf without a single complaint.
When the day was done, she’d tuck herself into bed alone, crying into the hood of her favorite Peanuts sweatshirt until she was too exhausted to keep her eyes open. It wasn’t a particularly festive sight.
She’d already been worrying about Frank when he made the proposition. She could imagine him, waking up in a silent apartment and drinking his coffee alone next to his fake mini-tree. He’d let his mind wander to dark places, she feared, as he remembered his kids in Charleston, tearing open their presents, guilt clawing at his chest to remind him why he was alone.
He didn’t push it, when Abby’d said she was taking them to her parents, but he drove straight to Mel’s place and cried into her arms that night, trembling like a dog in her lap.
So when he asked if she and Becca would spend the morning with him, it set off every alarm bell in her head despite the fact she’d extensively considered it.
What if, once again, she made these beautiful memories only to watch them vanish in an instant? What if Christmas became even more unbearable, when she eventually lost him, too?
He was proving, though, to be steady and constant in a novel way to Mel. He hoisted her onto his shoulders to put the star atop their tree, passed her tape while she wrapped Becca’s Nintendo Switch, held her close when the overwhelming grief crept its way in. She helped him too, decorating his apartment for Christmas Eve with Tanner and Penny, the whole place drenched in twinkling lights.
On Christmas morning, Frank sipped his coffee while Becca sorted gifts into piles for maximum opening efficiency. She handed them two identical ones to open first.
“I saw this idea on Instagram and thought of you, since Frank wears bracelets and Mel always talks about how pretty his eyes are,” said Becca.
He leaned into Mel’s neck, laughing as she flushed, playfully swatting his arm. The small boxes revealed two beaded bracelets with alternating blue and hazel stones.
“I picked the beads to match your eyes, opalite and tigers eye. You’re usually together anyway, but now you’ll be together all the time!”
They pulled them over their wrists, Frank’s right and Mel’s left, beads knocking against each other when their fingers intertwined.
