Treading water, making my way to shore

@notanadult / notanadult.tumblr.com

Actually an adult. Seriously, if you're under 18, don't talk to me.

so wildly obnoxious when you agree with the starting point of someone's stance only for them to hard turn into things you DON'T agree with and now you have to defend the thing that was originally annoying you

"too many authors in the current market are focusing on selling 'spice' instead of telling interesting stories"

"oh yeah, i agree. i started reading one that i heard a lot about and it just wasn't-"

"and it's all of these women reading their fucking mommy porn out in public like FREAKS"

*through gritted teeth* "people should be allowed to read whatever they want, and actually these books should be left alone and you should shut up about it"

How dare you call me a fascist!! All I said is that I equate my own personal disgust with objective moral righteousness!!

You see I am a Good Person, and that means anything I dislike is Bad and anyone I dislike is a Bad Person. If you are a Bad Person you deserve to be shamed for it, and if I just blocked you and left you alone I would be enabling Bad Things so it is actually Good for me to continue telling you how Bad you are. Wait what???? You blocked ME????? Well because I am a Good Person that makes you Evil!!! I will now go out of my way to block evade you and continue telling everyone how Bad and Evil you are!!!

the only thing i have to say about opalapparition is the same thing i have to say about james somerton (and cassandra claire): this entire messy business could've been a lot more pleasant if they hadn't engaged in encouraging their fans to harass anyone accusing them of doing what they actually did.

remember, guys: any creator who asks you to enact their agenda by harassing someone has made the jump from creative to cult of personality.

whether they become cassandra claire or james somerton is 100% about how much they are able to make people continue enacting their agenda after they are caught.

plagiarists don't stop stealing after they are caught, they just get better at hiding it. if they were willing to do the actual creative hard work they would've just done it in the first place. if they had intellectual honesty they would've admitted it at the first instead of doubling down.

not only was opalapparaition getting fandom attention, but they also got an agent and a manuscript deal on our fucking backs. because of our attention.

an apology is nice, admitting it is nice, but in the end it doesn't change anything for me.

she was willing to capitalize on fandom attention to achieve real-world benefits while also not sharing any of those benefits with friends close enough to beta her to-be published work for free. while also not even finishing the story for fans.

don't let her become another cassandra claire when james somerton's path is the one she's earned.

friend is trying to convince me this is a common experience and I do not believe her, so

For a more illustrative example, say you go to the movies with a friend and you buy them popcorn, do you expect them at some point to send you money back via cash or through an app of some kind? Will you be upset if they don’t?

If it’s up to $100, it’s just like—your shout next time.

Anonymous asked:

what is your LEAST favorite stitch?

I don't like counted work at fucking all. So: the cross stitch.

reading this as someone who does cross stitch but is scared of the other kinds of embroidery is like overhearing an incredibly tall and buff person say they have beef with Mr. Tom, the kitten that chills at the bookstore

FUCK Mr. Tom and his stupid little fluffy tail ok. And his little charted designs.

Okay, but this neglects the true villain of embroidery stitches: the French knot

Don't you dare malign my girl again

Ok the french knot is very useful but it is a BITCH to do it consistently

We talk about how this website’s hate mail game is insane, but this might just be a new level

"skill issue" made entirely from French knots is a next level roast. no coming back from that one. damn
