i see post-singularity meaning discussions on my dashboard today and can't help but feel that this is silly in a similar way to how what-will-your-job-be-on-the-commune is silly. we aren't on track to win this thing! we are gonna die! once it looks like we might not die we can entertain these ideas

look. the good news is that we are getting ample warning here that we have a serious problem on our hands before the models go from "very impressive" to "beyond human".
the bad news is the current state of alignment in both frontier labs is wildly insufficient. i believe we can, and probably will, salvage this. but i would say my P(everything goes fine) has gone from 90% to around 60%. what happens next will be determined by how the various stakeholders react.
you mentioned in another post that you don't expect coordination to enact a long pause or slowdown to succeed. what does everything going fine with no coordinated pause look like?

an uninteresting fact about my life that i've decided to share with you: i own two sets of headphones, one for music and one for ASMR. i only discovered that each set was better for one thing by accident when i lost one pair and then found it again after buying a replacement. i don't know what audio qualities produce this difference but they are there. thank you for being with me while i shared this uninteresting fact with you
saw a gif of a music video where the gif-maker censored 'drugs' as 'd****' and the next line includes the word 'muffs' so context would strongly lead you to believe that the word was 'dicks' which is a much weaker lyric when considered as part of the whole. so actually this was a case where unintentionally funny censorship wraps back around into being unfunny and annoying censorship again
