BAST first off, your art is so gorgeous and I deeply admire the amount of dedication and thought you put into your work. I’ve been going through your older work because my Arcana obsession is crawling its way back out of the grave (with concerning strength honestly), and I just wanted to talk about how incredible all the stuff you’ve done is. The amount of really high quality style studies, tutorials, and reference documents you put together over the years is genuinely mind blowing to me. AND FOR FREE??? Insane (in a good way). I love reading your analyses and explanations on art things whenever you post them. I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve shared with the world, you are a phenomenal artist.

Second part of my ramble: ik you have some designs up on redbubble, but is there anywhere I might be able to get a print of the arcana wedding CGs you posted in 2024? I would straight up sell my soul for a nice print of the Julian one. If not, no worries, I’d totally understand! I just figured I might as well try asking because it’s been on my mind for weeks now

P.S. sorry for the long anonymous ask, I don’t do tumblr asks very often. I hope you’re doing well! And if you’re not, then I wish you the very best and I hope things get better soon :)

Aw thank you so much! That's genuinely so sweet. As a self-taught artist who ravenously collected and used tutorials and references for everything I could think of, it was a goal of mine that if I ever learnt a trick or someone asked me for art advice, I'd do my best to share it. Gatekeeping has no place in art and I've always wanted to help other artists the way they've helped me

As for wedding CGs, I'm shocked I hadn't had them up before this! Thanks for the reminder

I’ve been getting back into The Arcana and I want to hear your theories on what would’ve happened if Nadia was the one who died? Or if she was the villain instead of Lucio. I have a lot of theories on how that potential swap would work but I rlly wanna know what you think

Pfft well, I'll just say the characters are lucky she wasn't. Honestly, you can see the difference in Lucio vs Tasya as antagonists, or Nadia's reversed ending.

Nadia's main flaws are arrogance, independence, and spite. She has something to prove and she will work to prove it her way no matter what. In contrast, Lucio's main flaws are obliviousness, gluttony, and indolance. He wants whatever he wants but he doesn't want to work hard for it.

When Lucio makes a deal with the devil, he doesn't pay up and thinks he can avoid the consequences. When Nadia makes a deal with the devil, she commits to the deal so hard she becomes the devil

I've said before that Tasya could be redeemed because she's perfectly aware of what she's doing, so if she's shown her plan won't work, she'll back down and have to accept it. Unfortunately, I don't think Nadia is the same. If someone tried to prove to Nadia her plan wouldn't work, she'd probably dig in her heels and break the world trying to make it work

In terms of goals, Lucio usually wants power for power's sake but Nadia would want to become architect of the world. She'd want to prove if everything happened the way she designs it, the world would be better

Do you ever think about how you were able to replicate the arcana style so perfectly that multiple ppl have thought you were an official artist on the game

It's kind of wild, honestly. Really goes to show if you want to be a better artist, find a style above your skill level and try your best

Hello! I wonder how this leather patch (or whatever it is) is located on Lucio's left shoulder in his mercenary outfit in the last chapter of Upright Ending. Does it cover his prosthetic shoulder (would be totally strange making his movements less free), is it under the prosthetics (weird to imagine the prosthetics doesn't even contact with skin this way) or does it have a hole for the prosthetics (then the old outfit with a strap around the left shoulder makes more sense)? What do you think?

It's actually implied that Lucio has little to no stump. When his prosthetic arm is taken off, you don't see anything past the shoulder sleeve so his arm is already unrealistically attached to him.

His arm is also 100% magical. A real-life golden arm would weigh a ridiculous amount, deform easily, and the parts resemble musculature rather than a skeletal structure that would allow it to reasonable move. aka. it's a fantasy and looks cool. I doubt the writers and artists thought out in detail how Lucio's life works as an amputee.

So it's either the leather completely flat (or has a pocket for Lucio's stump) and the arm can slot over it like a magical magnet as it already does to his body, or there's a hole in it like a lot of Lucio's clothing to let the arm through.

But yeah, the Arcana is very much fashion over function fantasy anyway so logic isn't what you bring to the table

Any Arcana headcannons you’ve yet to share? :0

  • Nadia knows the most languages out of all of the main 6, but she can speak like a textbook. Julian is the best conversationalist in other languages and picks them up pretty quickly. Asra and Lucio know odd phrases but mostly get around unfamiliar places with gestures or common words. Muriel and Portia never had much opportunity to learn different languages, though Portia is especially curious to.
  • Inanna can be like a possum mum for the other familiars. She's as big as a bear so even Melichor and Mercedes can take a nap on her back.
  • They are all trans.
  • All of them.
  • Nadia's family threw a parade for her once she decided her name. Morga easily accepted Lucio's transition but chose Montag for him, and he got a transition out of one of his many demon deals. Muriel never bothered changing his. Julian tested out lots of different names after he left Nevivion (basically one for every place), and Portia asked Lilinka to give her a name in place of thejr parents.
  • Nadia not-so-secretly wants to give Muriel a whole new wardrobe but she knows it'd overwhelm him so she instead takes every random holiday to give him a new outfit.
  • Portia's relationship history is almost as messy as Julian's (the devoraks are disasters)
  • Asra wants to scrapbook his travels but every time he tries he never actually finishes more than a couple of pages
  • Nadia and Lucio have had passive aggressive spice-tolerance competitions that quickly got out of hand
  • The largest animal Lucio has tried to keep in the Palace is an albino bull elephant who promptly destroyed the entrance hall

How do you think Portia could have fit in with Nadia and Lucio if she'd met them before the death and coma thing?

Now that's a fascinating idea! I've said that Portia is the glitter glue that can get Nadia and Lucio to share a relationship, but that's 100% post-story vibes. Before Lucio's death would be very interesting

It's pretty much canon that Nadia and Lucio opened their marriage so they could spend time with people they actually like, and I can see both of them pursuring Portia.

She's a comforting ear to Nadia and they're different enough to bring balance to each other's issues. I can see them having long nights as a refuge from all their work and sincerely falling in love through this tough time in Nadia's life.

Then while Portia would get fed up with Lucio's selfishness, and it's not like she'd think he's a good person, but at the same time she's the one out of the cast I can best see in a relationship with him. They love animals and adventure, Portia wouldn't put up with his bullshit, and Lucio would see no reason not to indulge in making Portia feel special.

She'd kind of be trapped between two hot, rich, powerful people who love to spoil her. They would not share well so that's great angst and drama, even if I think Portia is more likely to be in love with Nadia over Lucio

Bast, I’m hopelessly confused. I thought Lucio was a representative of the Devil/his patron Arcana was the Devil…and the Fool for MC

But people keep telling me Lucio is supposed to be a representative of the Fool/his patron is the Fool, and that he turned his back on the Fool for the Devil. And the proof is that he was sitting at the Fool’s seat for his ritual and “it says in the artbook that he’s the Fool” but I can’t find that or any real proof that Lucio’s patron is the Fool

What’s the truth???

It's not that complicated. In most routes, Lucio's patron is the Devil and that's what he's classically associated with. Lucio made his bargains with the Devil and owes him a great debt, similar to Muriel and Julian getting powers from the Hermit and Hanged Man.

However, the same way Lucio is associated with both goats and his white dogs, he has a connection to the Fool. The ritual to get his body back involved stealing the body of the Fool. If it worked, he'd be in the same position as the MC. In his own route, where he rejects the Devil, he finds he shares that connection to the Fool with the MC and they come together to be the Fool as a pair. Technically in Nadia's route, when he takes the MC's body he becomes the Fool as well.

Personality wise, it makes sense. Lucio is the most open to new experiences and seeks new beginnings, but he's often impulsive and suffers the consequences of his unthought actions.
