Kat, she/her Buffy, She-Ra, and assorted nonsense

btvs's ted but it happens during s4 instead of s2. riley is like you should :( try to get along with him buffy :( your mother loves him so who cares what anyone else thinks. meanwhile, as this subject is discussed At Length in giles's apartment (a sanctuary If she ignores spike) e spike is sat there like untie me NOW lemme at this man he is Not good enough for joyce. hE mAkEs hEr hApPy who gives a fuck! and buffy has to sit quietly for like 3 minutes outside while she reckons with the fact that she just had to agree. with. spike. which is of course her nightmare

@abadbadbrujah seconding these tags oh my god. give him knuckle dusters and have ted try to kick him out for being one of them dirty queers or some shit

the idea that Spike does this as a scheme after hearing Buffy talk about it at Giles is brilliant!

me & you rn.

well and it has to be him scheming because this Is still s4 and so this is like his zoo animal enrichment time. like giving an elephant a really big pumpkin. giles waiting in the car got me LOL

ted starts trying to manhandle spike who backhands him on instinct and then Doesnt Get A Migraine and is immediately all over this fight. giles's car is in fact a casualty as joyce's house is not to be obliterated (a fact her presence reminds him of). buffy going home right as the fight moves outside. sees the wires sticking out of ted's face. queue her and spike beating up a robot together and Not Bonding. Certainly Never Bonding but they are having fun

Spike can tell Joyce is drugged by her being all prim and proper when he knows what she's really like. He has one sniff of the cuppa tea and can tell it's not Joyce's usual blend, then he starts asking questions about how different she felt and when it started. Joyce starts to come to the realisation when Ted moves in (he came in via the front and when he heard a guys voice stayed back to hear the conversation) and tries to sweep the questions under the rug. Spike starts making passes at Ted to Joyce which triggers the 1950s homophobia as well as the fact that Spike decided to add more eyeliner than usual before going round.

Ted tries to grab Spike by the collar and Spike does his usual dead weight limp act when someone grabs him, Joyce jumps to Ted's side to get him to let go of Spike but Ted backhands her. Camera turns to Spike who's now full Vamp face doing the biggest lion growl he's ever done now holding Ted's collar who is then thrown through the door (throwback to Buffy throwing Angel through the window in s1).

Buffy runs through to the kitchen via the front door with Giles to find her Mom on the ground, she leaves Joyce with Giles tending to her and then Spike over the top of Ted in the garden putting dents into Ted's robot face with brass knuckles on his right hand. Ted manages to throw him off and get up which is when Buffy flying kicks him into the back and Spike swings at Ted again. It goes into a back and forth of blows from them two which then leads into them being synchronised before Spike tackles the middle and Buffy spin kicks Ted's head off.

The rest of the scoobies turn up with Riley who's lurking in the back upset that he's never been as in sync with Buffy as Spike was.

worst part abt election season is seeing ads that say Candidate Y is a radical communist who wants to abolish christianity and give everyone drugs and then I get all excited and I look up Candidate Y and they're just a center-right liberal who thinks we should maybe rename the Racism Is Okay Memorial Park

Why do people have to make politicians seem so much more based than they are. I was promised the abolishment of family and gender and the begining of an age of communism, why did they get my hopes up?

👏👏👏

So--when I was in my mid-twenties and the Disaster Ex tried to make me kill myself, the local mental hospital didn't have any beds open in the usual ward for attempted suicides.

What they did have was a single spare bed in the small, comfortable, quiet, wildly expensive facility for girls with eating disorders.

They asked each of the young women currently living there if it was acceptable that I might occupy a bed in one of the rooms for a while, just the long weekend while I was waiting for a doctor's evaluation. I hadn't been violent, I had gone with the cops without putting up any fight at all, and I was still and I was small and all those things were sufficient for me to be deemed safe. So up they sent me, to somewhere high in Western Psych, above the smells and sounds of the denser-packed wards, above where the care workers were harried and frustrated, to a gentle space with seven or eight young women in it.

I was five foot three, and I weighed about 115 pounds. I was underweight for my frame, as a fair amount of that weight was martial arts muscle; I would probably have been ten pounds heavier if I were healthy, with the amount of activity I got.

I was at least two inches shorter than pretty much every other young woman there, six or seven inches shorter than one of them, and I had at least thirty pounds on several of them. The tallest was not allowed to walk, she had to sit in a wheelchair and be pushed around, because her condition was so advanced that the motion would undo what good her hard work had done.

And over the course of the four or five days I was there, multiple of them came up to me alone to quietly tell me that I had the *perfect* body, and they wished they could be as skinny as I was. That I needed to live, because I was beautiful, and if they were as beautiful as I was, they wouldn't need to be here.

Their eyes were on me all the time, in the hours that I wasn't sleeping. I spent a lot of time sleeping, and we took our meals separately (I not needing to be monitored while I ate, and not having my food weighed), but we spent a fair amount of time sitting around in the little shared living room space, talking about movies and magazines and books we'd loved, talking about our families. I didn't talk about my family; they didn't pry.

They were all so fucking nice.

And I could have broken any one of them over my narrow knee. They each thought they were bigger than I was.

Their brains lied to them, every time they looked at a mirror. Every time they looked down at their own thighs. What they saw was not what I could see. They had bright, beautiful eyes in dark hollows, and I could count their vertebrae, could see their ribs winging when they breathed, could see the motion of every tendon on the backs of their hands.

They weren't celebrities. They weren't being paid to have particular bodies, nor were they deep in the toxic sea of having strangers take photos of them to sell to gossip rags if they stepped out of doors in old jeans. They had families and loved ones who were doing everything that they could to protect them, to uplift them and help them be healthy. They were just everyday people--a nurse, a couple of students, a couple of recent college grads, a young woman who had decided it was time to really get help because she wanted to be a mother--and still they'd been so injured by the neverending fucking deluge of body-image bullshit that they were dying of it.

That was in 2009. Things are worse now. I think about them still. I hope that they're all right.

And in case some people aren't aware: anorexia is deadly. There is a point at which your body looses the ability to digest food and you are no longer capable of improving.

I really hope that at some point all of the healthcare professionals willingly prescribing GLP-1s to women in Hollywood who emphatically Do Not Need Them lose their licensure, it’s utterly obscene, the entire entertainment industry is now full of people happily enduring medically enhanced starvation in the name of Beauty

i had a dream i was dating an eel scientist and everyone was so jealous of me and kept trying to steal my eel scientist lover. and in the dream i was Not stressed about this. i was so smug i had locked down a hot eel scientist. anyway. if any eel scientists are interested in making my dream come true hit me up

Reblog if you remember this motherfucker:

ooh i have a nice fun fact!

Static was WILDLY popular in Brazil (a country where the population is over 50% black) and we had re-runs for YEARS on open television. Everyone who was a kid in the 2000s knew and loved him. As a result, every single Brazilian Con has a LOT of static cosplayers!

So, a couple of years ago, Comic Con Experience (the biggest con in Brazil, which is actually also the biggest con in the world!) invited one of Static’s creator Denys Cowan as one of the guests of honor.

Now. Thousands of people attend his panel. And cosplayers went NUTS because they could show their Static cosplay to the creator himself! What none of us expected was Debts Cowan’s reaction:

He cried on stage.

He had never seen Static cosplayers - especially not so many of them! And he had no idea the show was popular here! No one ever told him his character was so beloved! Years and years of reruns and he had no idea! He obviously created the character with his experiences and his community (Black North Americans) in mind. Still, he accidentally touched a whole other community of black people who could see themselves on the screen as a superhero!

Anyway he is a lovely person and one of the best, most memorable guests we had. And I think this is a nice reminder that your art might touch people you can’t even imagine would when creating it.

Edit: I said “the creator” when i should’ve said “one of the creators”, its edited now, but while he isnt the one who came to brazil it’s important to say Dwayne McDuffie was another important figure to static shock!! Both are black men who paved the way in comic book history! Thank you @sokumotanaka for pointing it out.

As someone who was recently in Fukui, this isn't even scratching the surface of how mad the town is for dinosaurs.

For example, here is the outside of the train station:

If you thought that they were only outside the station, think again!

The last dinosaur has a crab, because the region is known for seafood.

You can even buy coffee emblazoned with dinosaurs!

And that's not even getting into how you get to the nearby Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum. Behold, the Dino-Liner:

And if you're like, man I don't know how the museum will top all of these dinosaurs, boy do I have news for you.

And then you get to the cafe:

But, eventually, it was time to head back to the train station...on the dino bus.

My take for the day is that the straight romance novel "evil annoying mean-girl fashionable shrew who is trying to get the male love interest" and the slash fiction "canon female love interest turned evil shrew who is trying to get her canon male love interest" are exactly the same type of misogyny.

At the same time, straight romance novel "sycophantic female best friend whose main characterization is being not quite as good at anything as the main character and being there to cheerlead the main character's romantic and/or other pursuits" and slash fiction "canon female love interest or other female character turned overly invested sassy best friend who is primarily there to cheerlead or orchestrate the main character's romantic relationship" are exactly the same type of misogyny.

On the other hand, straight romance novel "I'm the only girl around because no other girl has been *special* enough to make it" and slash fiction "there are no women" are different types of misogyny.

Anyway neither fanfiction nor original fiction inherently have any sort of special misogyny or lack thereof, and both spaces have a lot of opportunities to work on writing women better.
