  6. neverblackink said: @rfpreiwaphase Lol I think we’re on a different page of the same book. I’ve been both where they are and at the frustrations of much of what you just said. You can’t make people care nor grow up. Cause what they really need to do…is grow up and throw less tantrums about new experiences. It’s 10000% a lack of curiosity if you don’t understand how a site like Ao3 works! The same if you want to grump about in the comments of a fanfic written for free with all tags in place. My comments about anxiety and their handwringing may have sounded like I’m excusing behavior, but it’s more me admitting I see their shield and I’m far too exhausted to spend time dismantling that for them. I’ve tried. If a whole hoard of people are whining about how awful something is instead of understanding it, ain’t no way they’ll see the error in their ways any time soon, even if you hand it to them on a platter. It’s really up to all these confused new folks to either get a consequence for their ill behavior (and learn the wrong lesson, as is history), then leave in a huff, or look around them and consider “huh, Maybe this isn’t how I get what I want or how I behave here? No one wants to talk to me here.” I’m sorry that you’ve had to fight this directly, but your discussions with these newcomers sound more like them needing therapy for existing on the internet and less just a helping hand– especially if you have to pry information or of them and they cry louder. You’re right that we should absolutely confront them with a solution at least once, but the rule of the internet has always been “do not feed the trolls” and if they refuse to listen to your attempts at help and reason, leave them to toil til they learn to listen or at least express themselves in a way that’s not just helpless. Especially if all your getting from these interactions is venom and outrage. Attempt to understand but that’s all you can do if these are the reactions you’re getting.
