I'm trying to transmit data from an Omega DP41-E meter, but I keep getting a string of characters that don't make any sense. A pressure transducer (0-5 Vdc output, +E, -E, +S, -S wires) is connected to the meter and the meter is displaying the correct pressure value. The meter is set to 7 bit, odd parity, baud rate 9600, 1 stop bit. The meter is connected to the computer with serial connection --> RS-232 serial adapter --> USB.

I am trying to get actual pressure values from the meter. The pressure transducer into the meter has been checked and a voltage output has been confirmed. The meter works, as it has been used before with Teraterm.

I'm missing something with a setting somewhere. Can someone please help?

How are you receiving/reading the data? What are your COM Port settings? Please use the EDIT button to make your question more clear and complete. Commented Oct 16 at 16:19
  • "I still am unable to get actual numbers from the meter." - A vague and ambiguous summation. You neglect to mention what kind of connection you are using. Perhaps you need to use an oscilloscope, and check the signal on the cable? Also, a bad ground connection will turn a good signal into garbage. Commented Oct 16 at 23:30
  • Have you set the receiving PC serial port to 7,odd,9600,1 to match the meter? DTE and DCE must have exactly matching settings Commented Oct 17 at 8:44
  • I added some additional info. Thanks. I did match the PC serial port to the meter and that did not change what Teraterm was transmitting. Commented Oct 17 at 18:45
  • "The meter works, as it has been used before" - Are you also using the same cable/adapters? See superuser.com/questions/1688901/… Commented Oct 17 at 20:34
