I hear there's lots of plundering down in New Mexico...

I have been told by one [personal profile] catwalksalone that she will do a sad face if I don't write a bit about the epic amazingness of Black Sails. Since I am a sucker for the threat of a sad face, and Black Sails has seriously just been blowing my tiny nerd brain, here are some of my thoughts about that.

Basically, lovely people please come and geek out with me! I just had such a great televisual experience and I desperately want to share it!

Yuletide 2016: Countdown To Bears

Hello, lovely Yuletide Author!

You are clearly an excellent human, because we have at least one tiny fandom in common. My goal of Yuletide is always just More Fic For Everybody, so please don't take any comments here too seriously if that's going to freak you out. If you have an awesome story you're dying to tell, please do! But here is some more about me and my requests, should you want to know.

a whole lot of years later

I am done with work for the week because I'm going to Nineworlds. Super exciting! But before I do, I have a post I wanted to make, just like it's 2005, about Harry Potter.

People, last weekend I got to see Cursed Child in the theatre and it was AWESOME.

Anyone else want to AHHHHHH with me?!

Also also, if any of you want invites to Imzy, please yell. I have codes!

that's right, ladies hate bustin'.

I went to see Ghostbusters the other week and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I have not had that much fun at the cinema in a good long time. And I have literally never seen a movie on the big screen that I felt was more aimed at me and people like me.

In the light of it, there's been a lot of discussion of rebooting various franchises with women playing the main roles. And while there's been backlash, the thing that's been making me really happy is how many women there are coming out of the woodwork going, YES PLEASE. There's this one Facebook group I'm on that had a post by a guy going "omg my wife wants a lady reboot of this thing I love, hahaha stupid right" and you know what he got? Loads of comments going "Ghostbusters was good!" and "Why not?" and suggestions for who might play the characters. And one or two people who weren't into the idea either, but who clearly didn't consider the idea inherently stupid. The more the guy tried to reply to everyone with "BUT LADIES THO, THAT'S NOT RIGHT", the more clear it was that he wasn't the mainstream any more.

People, this is what progress looks like. It's a small thing, but it's beautiful.

summer in the city, lots of people in a rush and some fangirls sittin' pretty

For the last week I was in New York City, with some of my very favourite humans. I had a brilliant time and I... got to see Hamilton!

And not just any Hamilton. We booked tickets months and months and months ago, and yet somehow the date we picked ended up being the date of the once-in-a-lifetime, never-to-be-repeated FULL CAST REUNION. We got every single original cast member. Including Jonathan Groff, who left a while ago. The show we saw was literally the one being filmed for posterity/the inevitable DVD. I have NO IDEA how some fangirls can get that lucky, how that can even happen. But I am here to tell you all that it CAN AND DID. To us. Whaaat.

the most Yuletide reveal-y time of the year

It's January! (...I know, I'm not ready for that either. I currently want about a week before I'll start CONSIDERING it.) And that means, Yuletide authors have been revealed!

I wrote:

Memes In Time And Space (1317 words) by soupytwist
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Thrilling Adventure Hour
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bob McCrumbs/Colonel Tick-Tock
Characters: Colonel Tick-Tock, Bob McCrumbs
Additional Tags: First Time
Summary:

Now it's time for some fanfic in the style of old-time radio!

I never, ever, ever thought I'd write for a podcast! I didn't even match on it! But the Colonel and Bob called (and my favourite [personal profile] catwalksalone campaigned vigorously on their behalf, hahah). I ended up really enjoying it. And [personal profile] kindkit didn't seem to mind having me turn up in their Yuletide TWICE, which is the even more important bit.

Yuletide 2015: Don't act surprised you guys, cause I wrote 'em

Hello, loveliest author of Yuletide joy! I hope you're as happy as I am that we matched on a fandom!

The first thing, as ever, is that if you have a specific story that you're yearning to tell, you should definitely go ahead and write THAT. I think that's great and I'm much more invested in having someone else care about my tiny fandoms than I am in any of the details I've listed below. I'm really very easy to please and I hope to be a non-scary recipient. However I know sometimes more details are the best thing ever, so here you go, if you'd like.

things are happening! STOP THEM!

I went to Vidukon the other day and had a GREAT time! I feel like vids are an artform I enjoy a lot, but don't have much vocabulary for, and a whole con based around them was actually really great for both sharing that joy and building the vocabulary to discuss it. Very interesting, thoroughly recommended. I was not sure what I'd make of it, as someone who has never made a vid myself, but I was persuaded into going along to give it a try and I am SO glad I did.

(And I got to see some people I know, too. They're okay. I guess. :D)

AND, just because I really do want to give this vidding thing a try: viddy people! Please tell me of your resources! How did you learn? Where should I go to figure stuff out? The more basic the better! I will undoubtedly be bugging people with annoying questions sometime, and I would like them to be annoying questions at least sliiightly further along than "so what letter comes after B?"

The other main thing in my life right now is trying to buy a bathroom. I think I may be on the way to succeeding. If so, I will be SO HAPPY. And probably never buy a bathroom again. Never do it, people, it's terrible.

(But hopefully my bathroom will be RAINBOW. My plan is that this makes it worth it.)

PEGGY

I enjoyed Agent Carter so much! Let me enumerate some of the ways, oh my journal.

So, uh, if I were to want a Peggy icon, where I should I go these days to get one? I'm feeling an old-skool need. (I can make a bad one myself if I have to, but omg I am not even sure where to go for screencaps!)

this could be good / this could be good

I was absolutely over the moon to get this as my assignment, and I feel pretty pleased with it: it's a small thing, but it seemed to work at least slightly how I hoped it would. I am in favour of cute lesbians, what can I say. :D
