I went to Connotations! It was really fun - I love fans, I love fans SO MUCH. There was some hilarity and I also got to go for a swim followed by a sauna and plunge pool, which I thoroughly recommend. Especially since jogging is currently Right Out, it was perfect. And there was hugging, and a free copy of Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton, and did I mention FANS? Aw yeah.

Today I nearly fell asleep at work, and also discovered that I had not bought an important book I need for my Open University course. So I eeped at my bank balance and then hit Amazon. I am getting more nervous about my course: my first essay is due at the end of the month and my first tutorial is on Saturday, and WHAT IF I HAVE ACTUALLY DESTROYED ALL MY BRAINCELLS, or manage to accidentally get 0 for everything, or manage to make my tutor hate me, or something? Hopefully when I am less post-convention exhausted I will have more faith in my ability to at least potentially put enough words after another to end up with a passable essay on the point of art.

(I am currently finding the whole debate between aestheticism and instrumentalism kind of deeply frustrating, which is possibly not a good thing when that's the whole point of this half of the course.)

I want to write lots about The Good Wife soon but for now, omg Cat and I watched the first three episodes of season nine, and it was SO MUCH BETTER than I was expecting!

Like, in the third episode, Tim's grandma does the following:

1. Turns out to be Lily Tomlin, and a total badass
2. Has clearly got the impression Tim and Tony are a couple - like, to the point where she's about two seconds away from using the words 'in-laws' and petting them both on the head.
3. Has a little "embrace all sides of yourself, Tim!" speech, which goes with the "I know your dad's awful and I'm sorry, one day he'll come round" speech to pretty much equal proof that she's the one Tim first came out to.

It's pretty awesome. By which I mean I squeaked. And oh Tim was just GORGEOUS the entire episode - conflicted! sad! having bonding with Tony! (Who has apparently decided that it is official now that they don't have to tell each other everything, but they should. It's way more adorable than that sounds.) It was beautiful, beautiful fanservice of the sort I like best. :D

I missed Ada Lovelace Day, but I think this is a really lovely tribute. To you, all ladies who geek!

I leave you with the best vid ever. I don't think anyone in the vid show on Saturday night was left dry eyed at the end of it. *g*
