silver lining

Kind of belated, but back in August I had wanted to post an update about how I reread the entire Fullmetal Alchemist manga for the first time in years.

I reread all 27 volumes in about a week, which was very similar to how I also binged the Brotherhood anime back then (the first few episodes took me a while to watch, and then once got to around episode 10, I watched about 5-10 episodes per day til completed all 64 episodes, also in about a week).

While I had finished the manga around the time it completed in June 2010, I didn't remember exactly when I watched the Brotherhood anime other than there was a gap in between. As I was trying to remember, Facebook Memories of all things pulls up a post from 13 years ago:

August 16, 2010 - "so, fullmetal alchemist:brotherhood really does get better after episode 10! before the pacing and some of the animation seemed sort of rushed"

It just amused me that I accidentally fulfilled a fannish anniversary, and wanted to document it further for my future self.

The Last Airbender Creators Introduce the Epic New Legend of Korra Trailer!

[I'm not sure when I started this post -- it was saved as a draft on the update page -- but this idea still amuses me.]

As a random drive by post, a Merlin(bbc)/Curse Workers fusion fic seems like it would work. (Curse Workers = book trilogy by Holly Black, people can use magic (of their specific talent, such as luck working, death working, emotional manipulation, memory manipulation, and transformation) by skin contact but has been made officially illegal since Prohibition, etc.)

Uther would totally be a Cop, possibly related to one of the people responsible for the ban in the first. Arthur is expected to follow in the family's footsteps and become a cop eventually as well. I keep placing Morgana as an emotion worker, though that might change whenever I catch up with the show. Still not sure what kind of worker Merlin would be, though it should be something that doesn't have a too visible blowback. Maybe memory work, though it doesn't feel enough for Merlin lol.

I don't have a place for Gwen in this fusion yet, though I think that she be a bridge between the Cops and the Workers; perhaps either as an informer or as an advocate or something else.

...More thoughts later, after the third book comes out or when I catch up with the tv show.

So, I was random and made a tumblr! I...don't really know why or what I'm going to do with it. Right now, I have a couple reblogs of Fullmetal Alchemist pictures and a cat picture. (It will probably become my target for random caturday/lolcat spam, knowing me)

Edit (months later); It has become my spot to spam with random pictures of random fandoms, landscape photographs, and animal pictures, lol

“Karen Healey has come up with a fabulous way to combine holiday gift-giving and stealth marketing for her forthcoming novel Guardian of the Dead.” All you have to do is put in your email, and she will send you a short story for the holidays. Cut off day is December 7; Melbourne, Australia time.

I found a summary of the novel a while ago that made it look interesting enough to check it out when it comes out, but can’t find it again now, so I shall just quote what the short story might be about:

The story may or may not be set in the same world as GUARDIAN OF THE DEAD, but if so, there will be no spoilers. The story will probably take place around and make references to Christmas, so if that is not your cup of beverage then you may wish to avoid. Story will be produced in a room with peanuts present. Story may contain zombies. Story may contain vampires. Story may contain four pages of dialogue and a desperate stick figure drawing of a puppy.

I had a word doc open in order to try this live blogging thing that I have seen around, but that failed, other than me writing down these two points from right at the beginning and right at the end.

So, basically I found the movie surprisingly mostly awesome, though not without its problems. And I’m too tired to get into any more detail about it right now.

But I want Gianna fic now. Is there any yet?
