I just realised, I'm not sure if I still have the right cell number for you, so- happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] amphibious_one, and I hope you're having a marvellous and exciting (in only the good ways!) day. Has been far too long since I've seen you, we must catch up somehow soon. *is determined to get to the south island again this year some time!*

I got to spend like four and a half hours this morning doing actual-stuff-I-studied-for-my-degree type chemistry, which, really, was pretty awesome. I spilled sodium hydroxide on myself, made a dorky joke about 'all your base are belong to me', because it doesn't hurt, and I was mostly just all nostalgic and "aww, my hands feel all soapy and weird. Because there's a chemical reaction melting the fat! I haven't done this in years!" *is a giant loser, yes* More work-related blather. )

I was thinking earlier this month and forgot to say- it's kind of a pity in some ways that it doesn't count to pull April Fools after midday, because while I'm not comfortable with most pranks on general principle, I think it would be pretty awesome if, say, a band came out on April 1st and played the entire show standing on the opposite sides of the stage to where they normally would. I mean, if I'd been in line all day and headed straight for Adam's sidethe bassist** I would be a little sadfaced at first, obviously, but it would be HILARIOUS and the cognitive dissonance would be kind of fascinating and larger than you'd expect, I think. (The reason I was reminded of this is cos I finished watching Cleveland and hello, how did I forget that's the last time I heard '40'. Nggggh.)

**It's possible I maybe have some, um. Consistent habits. In that nine out of ten bands I veer heavily stage left for ideal viewing. Um. Heh. And oh hai there, Toro, too. Don't think I forget the guitarists! :D

Hrm, what else did I need to post about? [livejournal.com profile] blue_raven, I'm hoping to email you a wee bit later tonight, kick me if I don't, Wellington people I'm hoping to variously text and/or email you all tomorrow and Friday to organise stuff. *thinks* And our Auckland tickets for the Panic at the Cobra Academy SHENANIGANFEST arrived this afternoon, too, which, SQUEE, and also for once, I must give props to ticketmaster for prompt and efficent service. This may be somewhat unprecedented! *g*

Oh! Hey, does ANYONE have questions they would like me to try and ask Chris Judge at his panel on Saturday? Because I would like to ask something, you know, remotely intelligent or likely to lead to interesting or funny stories, but I can never, ever think of anything not completely toolish to ask in these situations, so... I put myself at your disposal, guys!

Lastly, I must confess that last week's Operation: Big Sister was a dismal, dismal failure on my part - I watched 1x U2 live show DVD and... half a disc of Xena. So I'm fronting up to Jame to pay my forfeit when she assigns it.
So, I've never done this media guest deal thing at cons before - I've only ever had comic artists sign, and so on, so I am all kinds of !! and bewildered by things, and thusly clutching at [livejournal.com profile] blue_raven and [livejournal.com profile] tshirtgirl a very much lot for direction. As anyone who saw [livejournal.com profile] katrin can attest, we joined the insane queue for photos with Joe, and so, hi, there is now a photo of me with Joe Flanigan. (He apparently had his arm over my shoulder, I so do not remember this.) And wow, tall. And Chris Judge, who we will hopefully do the photo thing with later, oh my god, SO gorgeous. Connor Trinneer is adorable and utterly charming, and told us we looked lovely at the cocktail thing. Um, I feel like there was something else I felt the need to share with the internet but I am drawing a blank right now. Urk. The panels were pretty good today - Connor dealt extremely well with questions that had us cringing and praying for ninjas, and Joe said something (don't recall right now, it'll come back to me) in his panel that gave me a sudden and wild word-geek crush on his brain. We went through the autograph line as well, largely on a just-in-case basis since Joe's leaving at 4 tomorrow, and so I have also stuttered at Chris Judge, Joe Flanigan and Connor Trinneer. I am in no way any fraction approaching 'cool'. (However, not as badly as I stuttered at Lois a few years ago, I think it'd take Hewlett (if that) to equal the mindless panic of trying to tell Lois McMaster Bujold how awesome she is.)

The cocktail evening was not, I gather, quite as chatty as last year (which was probably a good thing for my self-respect, if nothing else, as that's already in tatters this week (yet to be mentioned in my LJ this week: the number of times I have FALLEN OVER SHIT in front of people and hurt myself; I have spent the last three days barely able to move/definitely not reall able to sit/bend), and there was a creepy handsy person, which made, I think, both the guests and the people who saw/heard about it very uncomfortable. ugh, people. WHY. (Send. Ninjas.)

But, yes, is very awesome and I have FABULOUS roommates and hope all is well on internets land. <3

Oh, and I should've said - our hotel is super flash and like a five mintue walk if THAT from Aotea Square, \o/, although our inclination to be enthusiastic about the place took quite a hit this morning when the shower flooded and the first response from reception was to say that no one on Maintenance could look at it until Monday. Yeah, I DON'T THINK SO. We got Assertive. It got fixed.

Um. Yes. people are pretty. Fandom is excellent. I love my show/s. *flails* *and fails at going to bed*

I just had a novel experience. I'm trying to tidy up a bit before Chris comes over, and I'm transposing the stack of to-do lists that pile up under my paperweight onto the desktop doc. file (now at six pages and still going, eek), and found two sheets in a row that I had entirely completed already. \o/

Anyhoo, this is totally just a drive-by post before I forget - [livejournal.com profile] morebliss, I meant to find this for you last week. This would be something you really, really need to see (and the reason we all shrieked when you said you never saw him on SG-1).

OH MY GOD I think my head just exploded. I just got a comment from [livejournal.com profile] malnpudl which prompted me to go double-check if we have any last minute guests for Armageddon announced at the moment and there are. And now I'm torn between glee and fear that one of them will cancel. )

Also, pub quiz was cancelled tonight - I'd love to say it was because the other team were scared of us, but truthfully they are just pikers, and so we get a free drink next week for showing up tonight anyway. And, um. This happened.

Nicola: *looking mournfully at her bangers and mash* "Who cut my sausage?"
Lyndon: "It tastes better cut, right?" *evil grin*
Me: "LYNDON!" *wide-eyes of Oh No Not More Innuendo, Quelle Horreur!*
Everyone at the table: *twigs* *collectively pee themselves laughing*
Me: *hides* Because:
My mother: *does not stop snickering for at least five minutes*

Lyndon swears he did not mean that and that *I* was the one who took it to the filthy place, I maintain he started it, and am still somewhat traumatised that HANDS DOWN the top three most inappropriate public conversations/innuendo-fests I have witnessed/been embarrassed bypart of have not been with fangirls in any one of four major cities, but with MY MOTHER and the rest of our pub quiz team. ...I come by it honestly?

*continues to fail at internets*

So, I realised at work this afternoon - I missed Sunny's birthday. Which is today. Or, actually, by this point, yesterday. (Right?) So either way, sweetheart, I hope you had a great day, and that you got to spend it with friends and family, and that the coming year is filled with excellent things of much fantastic-ness. And I love you and am so glad you're my friend and OMG SEE YOU LIKE REALLY SOON. (Yes, I will get my tickets this week. /disorganised!girl)

Hee. I just spent ten minutes speculating on future plot arcs of Heroes with my mum. (We're concurrent with the NZ airing schedule1, please do not spoil us.) And if the spoiler I did accidently see means what I think it does, she totally called something complicated the right way, go mum! She started watching both Heroes and Ugly Betty because they're set in NYC and so she gets establishing-shot porn. Obviously, she uses different words, but that was totally the original impetus. We can all see how I'm related here, huh? :D

Er, in other news, I am tabs-go-splodey girl, because I had a wonderful evening at [livejournal.com profile] jessikast and [livejournal.com profile] laputain's flat watching Rocky Horror (and various other things, koff) and chatting, which was GRATE. )

Work was busybusybusy, I did a shit-ton of densities today and still no water (eeeeeeek) and am trying not to stress about it. I've been sleeping pretty badly lately (waking up a lot) so I'm going to try to go to bed early tonight, which since tonight is Heroes means computer goes off about nine-thirty, hell or high water, so... I'm gonna be slower than usual this week3. To the four or five of you on LJ I need to email, again, I can only apologise and bribe you with good!Cadbury easter eggs when I see you as penance, and to the two people I need to email who aren't on LJ, er... karma will somehow reward you for the fact I am a tool? I hope? Heh. Right. Reading! Oh, and feeding the kitty.

1 Episode 8. Well, Episode 9 airs tonight, so we've seen eight.
2 Essentially: "So that means in another universe I made it to second base with [some chick in high school]? Cool!"
3 Skip140. I WEEP. Actually, that's better than I was expecting. But still. WEEP.
This is total self-indulgence porn snippet-y business, and not entirely what I planned to work on tonight, but so be it, eh? As it is, thus far, a not-necessarily connected series of snippets, because girl!Rodney is so much fun that I have to have about thirteen realities existing in my head at the same time and picking just one is too hard. I am, as ever, deeply indebted to[livejournal.com profile] katrin, who started this with the basis (and best) of the third snippet, and also gave me a line from the second verbatim.

the mirror crack'd: girl!Rodney splinters from across the multiverse (or, crack snippets in D minor) (3600 words, R overall.)
edit: the first snippet has a spoiler for one line of dialogue from SG-1 10x13, Road Not Taken.

Today I have:

  • had a power cut (in the calm normal weather of today. Go figure).
  • had the internet be out for a further two hours as consequence of said power cut.
  • finished reading two books as a consequence of having nothing else to procrastinate with.
  • then got really annoyed because I've read everything on my bookshelves** 'too recently' to feel like rereading any of it, and don't want to start any of the four unread books I have at the moment. My life is pain and suffering, etc.
  • read a fic using "lathed" instead of "laved" and snickered at great length with Chris.
  • maybe a bitalit ordered four seasons of SG1 from DeepDiscountDVD because Barb is a gem among humanity and pointed out they're having a sale. It's half what I would normally pay here! And I have, um, a decent wodge of money coming in hopefully soon as a consequence of everyone but Chris (and N. and J., but they're turning up late so I may not see them there) bailing on U2 with me and leaving me with extra tickets. (Having said that, I do realise no one who bailed did so willingly, so.)
  • eaten way too much smoked fish but mmmmmmmyummy. Smoky fish make feel nice!
  • got a helluva lot done at work (yay me!) but also managed to pretty much cover the entire floor with rock at one point, by mistake. WHY AM I SO KLUTZY??
  • realised I never actually linked to this once it was free to do so, so, uh... if anyone is interested? Best Laid Plans [Lorne/Novak] aka, the fic I wrote for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_secondary challenge. Fic number... two or possibly three of the recent het arc. Huh. :)

  • **For the record? This isn't a particularly modest number of books, either. Heh. I am just picky.

In the interests of those of you who like stuff cut-tagged not administering bush justice, I'm just cutting this whole post. I was on 'talk' mode, I think there's something here for most of you. (ie, it's not all fannish. No, really. I SWEAR. )
EDIT: Okay, so, insta-rec: Daniel drabble by Daegar. This is just- so right. Kat, it's safe for you, and I am looking Speakingly at you, Chris, unhurt and, hrm, Vonnie? I think? especially to read it. The end. <3

In conclusion: [livejournal.com profile] shihadchick is a land of contrast.

    ( Oct. 24th, 2006 08:08 pm)
I maybe volunteered to do a show report. For the twenty-fourth. (Which is in four and a half weeks. Oh my GOD.) Um. I mean, I'm sure they'll pick someone else, but. Heh. *crosses fingers*

Tiny bit more of Armageddon - Summer Glau and, shocker, more Stargate content. )

Tiny meeping/bitching about Stargate canon, help? (Do I have to spoiler this? Uh, S3 of SG1 + one bad pun from Season 8 )

I'm trying not to make this primarily Stargate but 1) that's what my brain is running on right now (and it's my next deadline) and B) uh... I got nuthin'.

Oh, no, wait, I got something! I was thinking at work today that I absolutely want to refilk Banned from Argo along the lines of how we were joking (I think in [livejournal.com profile] shoemaster's journal?) about how dS fans should maybe be banned from Inuvik. Because that would be HILARIOUS.

In addition, last night Mum and I watched episode 5 of Slings and Arrows season 1 )

I was super efficient this weekend and bought two cards. Of the, er, mumble-ten-or-so I meant to get. Damn, that seemed so much more impressive before I put it in context. Rats. Also, there may be more Polls of Ambiguity and Contraryness to follow shortly. Hopefully. Oh, and a local-fen type poll thinger, because I think those of us in the Big Damn City should try and get together sometime soon.

I am having thoughts about coffee, or about someone's house for dvd-age (I would love to volunteer my own, because I like my house and also I am a big fan of not having to go out but I do freely realise it's a fair way out for most folk) or about having Fangirl Rambles around various scenic places (weather permitting) - although I will freely admit that latter is mostly because I totally want and need to do more exercise type stuff and I am far more motivated to do so when there are people to talk to rather than just having to let my own thoughts go all Coriolis effect on me. :D (That metaphor is far more picturesque if you start thinking about a particular Simpsons episode.)
Scooting on really freakin late (so, so sorry) to say a very very happy birthday to Ms [livejournal.com profile] izzybeth. I gather from the text I just got that you got snow for your birthday, so that's cool, though I hope, of course, that you get to be warm and snugged up inside with hot drinks and good company (be it personal or, you know, books and videos and music) and just... so very, very much love to you. I was thinking yesterday that this marks the sixth of your birthdays I've been around for, and that we've spent approximately 25 of the last 300 weeks together. Which is, frankly, amazing, and I only wish it was more time. Move to Wellington SOON, okay? I love you dearly, and I wish I could be there to say so in person. (And, uh, I would've called to say so but a) I definitely did NOT want to wake you up if you were trying to sleep, and I couldn't recall if you were working last night or no (it seems yes) and b) I'm losing my voice and can't really hear, so that doesn't work so well.)

So, yes. I hope you had a great day and that this heralds the start of a fabulous year. Kia kaha, babe.

    *less-than-threes*

    * * *

And, in other news, I am wrecked and work tomorrow is going to be... challenging, and character building, and all those frightful types of adjectives, and so pretty much I'm postponing even vaguely attempting to catch up on the weekend until Later. Few tiny comments about this weekend's Armageddon Expo, bonus local fangirls, notes/quotes and video to follow in due course. )
shihadchick: text: "makes awesome injoke that references eight different fandoms, three different countries and also curling" (at least morale was high)
    ( Oct. 21st, 2006 08:40 pm)
I am so completely fried. Going in to town for about three hours today just wiped me out completely (SO worth it, though) and I want to record it all later here for, well, myself and anyone who's interested, but right now? Going to bed with DVDs. Am kind of annoyed at myself - I was so gone after dinner that, despite the fact I mentioned it at dinner and have been looking forward to it all week, I forgot all about Rachel Luttrell and David Nykl being on Holmes tonight, so I basically, uh, 'sprang' (read: moved like a very very old person) out of the bath and basically sat in front of the tv in a towel and caught the last ten minutes of it. Rats. I mean, Holmes himself is just so- god, he's so ANNOYING and patronising, and he kept kind of ignoring David in Rachel's favour, but the two of them were totally wonderful. They make a superb double act.

I took... a fair bit of shoddy video at Armageddon this afternoon, which I will share later (put it this way: 1min of footage = 20min uploading time, I am not made of patience), but for now, since I uploaded it and it wasn't done before Kat went to bed: David Nykl talks about SF, with a snippet at the end regarding the possibility of Zelenka having scenes with Teyla. I have a few snippety bits of video from SG1 people as well (Tony Amendola and Colin Cunningham (I resolutely kept ALL thoughts about "the Lush Major Davis" well inside my own head during his part, hee)) but the lighting is, in fact, even worse in those, so, uh, yeah. I was too far back, and I feel really bad because I suspect my camera was in the way and, um, guilt.

There may also have been an incident in which I nearly smacked David Nykl's ass (purely by accident, okay?) but, uh, we're not talking about that now. *is so fucking classy*
As usual, weekend didn't quite go to plan.

    Actually Accomplished: )

I just feel like I've been asleep all day (stupid necessary sleeping in, wastes time and leaves me just as not-awake) so hopefully tomorrow work will wake me up enough to be functional, but not so much that I'm worn out. I do wonder what it says about me that I refrained from hooking the iTrip up at work last week NOT because I have potentially embarrassing podfic/due South geekery loaded onto it, but because I am terribly afraid that if I shift the radio dial we will lose the delicate tuning job we currently have to keep us sane.

Okay, so mostly I'm just posting now because I hate looking back X-many years or months down the track and not knowing Wot I Did that week/day/whatever, so, here endeth the LJ post. Gotta work out whether to watch something or just go to bed crazy early. Hrm. (Also, has anyone got confirmation yet if the Frames are playing only Aussie BDOs or if we get them too? Inquiring minds, etc.)
...you know when the internet becomes both scary and amusing?

When an writer you don't know, who lives in EUROPE links to a joke article (ETA: article text only, but not work-safe anyway) you remember reading when it was first composed for your university magazine. In New Zealand. At least three and more likely four years ago. Um. The world is THISBIG.

In other news, on the reccommendation of half of the people at Get/Together, I've spent the last week reading Dr Jackson's Diary (has large quantities of Daniel/Jack for people who have strong SG1 ships to bear in mind) and, oh my god. Saving any other comment I could make (seriously, if you've not read it, bear with the occasional spelling mistake, it is SO worth it), it is hysterically funny. I just. I am halfway through December and I had to stop reading because I am crying with laughter and my everything hurts and I will not spoil anything (cos Chris, at least, is def still reading for the first time) but, oh god. OWCH. *shrieking with laughter and cannot stop* I kept reliving bits of November and bits of the last Cruiseliner fic at work all day and god, that improves a Monday like you would not believe.

Mum and I are about to make our fourth attempt to sit down and start watching Slings and Arrows so I may not get to the first day of G/T tonight. Either way: wish us luck and no new interruptions!

    Not!Monkeys!!
    Dear Kat,

    You CRACKDEALER.

We are so even now. So, so even.

    *shakes fist*

    *with love*

    ~Me.

Not that I, you know, threw myself in the deep end or anything and started watching Wormhole X-Treme and, oh dear god, painfully funny. HEE. *so easy. so, so easy*

And, thank fuck, there was a secret stash of coke (the fizzy kind, duh) stashed under the record player because I was pretty much at the point of "give me caffiene or give me, well, not death, b ut at least car keys so I can go buy some". Heh. *clings to beverage* *mutters trollishly*

Random trivia: I actually photoshopped out (badly, you can tell by the colours) "Cork" on this icon and replaced it with something fannish. Because, well. It seemed like a good idea at the time? The best part is I now actually can't remember what I put there. I win so hard.

Some small wankery, in a way, I guess? )

There, that's over, don't we all feel better?

Okay, back to the idiot box ("No, this is the good box") til it's too late to make noise.

EDIT: Oh, and happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] eledhwenlin! Hope you have a great day and fun and manage to carve out some stress-free time away from study. *hug*
