Blade is trying to persuade me away from my love of the moral highground with "but the swamp gases are flammable!"

I hate that I stopped to consider that.

Also I have the best t-shirt from [personal profile] chameleongirl79 :DDDDDDDD THANKS, BB. (Pics tomorrow b/c I think I'm wearing it.)

Armageddon tomorrow, for which I have a smart phone for the first time, so either I will be totally MIA or you'll be getting "OH at Auckgeddon" tweets every ten minutes.

(I know where the smart money is.)
Five am is difficult. Doubly so when one didn't get to bed after doing t-shirt things until after half two. Exorbitantly priced hotel wireless is somewhat terrifying - we're good for time but it reckons we somehow used like 400 MB bandwidth in less than an hour and so we had THIRTY left and so i basically refreshed the MJ com ONCE and hoped like hell and couldn't even dare to check my email till it was done in case it cut me off at which point i feel that PANICKING would have been the totally valid next option amirite? ugh, sorry, yeah, it is... very early and i am very tired and most likely rather incoherent.

Waiting up for a confirmation, then back to sleep omg.

Con going excellently so far, fangirls are fabulous, Margot Kidder was smart and scathing of Sarah Palin and a complete sweetheart and, oh, [livejournal.com profile] brooklinegirl? I had to explain the Euro-American Beaver Congress 2008 to Lois Lane. I feel this is moment of pride for us all. :D (Seriously, my bag has started more conversations this week than I can quite comprehend heee) Kavan Smith is a total sweetheart, utterly charming, checks for children before he swears, and is HILARIOUS ([livejournal.com profile] blue_raven has video you guys, omg, just WAIT). He also dished the dirty on Hewlett, ie, that "he's gay, Jane's a professional actress, and the kid? Is Kavan's." There was much extended LOL-ing. :D Doug Jones' panel was also excellent, and I managed to tell Gary Jones how excellent his commentaries with Peter DeLuise are, so that was nifty. I feel there was much other stuff the internets needs to know, but it all escapes me right now. Other than that whenever [livejournal.com profile] tshirtgirl and I get around to forming a band, we already have the tracklisting for our first album. And the first three rounds of punctuation wank foretold. [Wolf shirts] and Sandcastles 4eva!

ETA: AHAHAHAAAAA all seven posts between this one and the MJ sign up post on my flist are PEOPLE WHO HAVE JUST SIGNED UP PAUL GROSS ARMS-ing, more or less. \o/ I LOVE FANGIRLS. I am so excited to see all you guys yaaaaaaaaay!

Last ETA (aka YAY I CAN GO SLEEP AGAIN NOW): Confirmation! WHOO! Speedy service, thanks guys! <3 On the other hand oh my godddddd the exchange rate sucks SO BAD right now *breathes into a paper bag and looks horrified*. I MISS BEING LIKE UNTO AS A GOD WITH THAT CURENCY. DAMNIT. But rly. BED YAY! FANGIRLS MORE YAY THAN ALL THE WOOOOOOORLD!

Home safely from Wellington. Because I am awesome at, you know, forethought, I basically spent an hour and a half sitting in the airport up here waiting for my dad's flight to get in, because I kind of neglected to figure out a way to get home myself, and my mother is sort of... in Australia, and thus was also incapable of picking me up. Heh. Oops.

Anyhow, Wellington was most excellent, the con was fun, the company was even better (I managed to catch up with [livejournal.com profile] angel_a, [livejournal.com profile] arysteia, [livejournal.com profile] aworldinside, [livejournal.com profile] blue_raven, [livejournal.com profile] china_shop and [livejournal.com profile] morebliss, which was great), except of course now I am really rather tired, and edging towards kind of desperately over-socialised, so I'm pretty much just going to go make some dinner and then watch a DVD and go to bed early. Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend!

PS: Chris Judge is a bad, bad man and I find him delightful. I have an ASSLOAD of video to try and upload later, though of course I managed to completely forget to take photos of, you know, people I know. Darnit. Next time!
I just realised, I'm not sure if I still have the right cell number for you, so- happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] amphibious_one, and I hope you're having a marvellous and exciting (in only the good ways!) day. Has been far too long since I've seen you, we must catch up somehow soon. *is determined to get to the south island again this year some time!*

I got to spend like four and a half hours this morning doing actual-stuff-I-studied-for-my-degree type chemistry, which, really, was pretty awesome. I spilled sodium hydroxide on myself, made a dorky joke about 'all your base are belong to me', because it doesn't hurt, and I was mostly just all nostalgic and "aww, my hands feel all soapy and weird. Because there's a chemical reaction melting the fat! I haven't done this in years!" *is a giant loser, yes* More work-related blather. )

I was thinking earlier this month and forgot to say- it's kind of a pity in some ways that it doesn't count to pull April Fools after midday, because while I'm not comfortable with most pranks on general principle, I think it would be pretty awesome if, say, a band came out on April 1st and played the entire show standing on the opposite sides of the stage to where they normally would. I mean, if I'd been in line all day and headed straight for Adam's sidethe bassist** I would be a little sadfaced at first, obviously, but it would be HILARIOUS and the cognitive dissonance would be kind of fascinating and larger than you'd expect, I think. (The reason I was reminded of this is cos I finished watching Cleveland and hello, how did I forget that's the last time I heard '40'. Nggggh.)

**It's possible I maybe have some, um. Consistent habits. In that nine out of ten bands I veer heavily stage left for ideal viewing. Um. Heh. And oh hai there, Toro, too. Don't think I forget the guitarists! :D

Hrm, what else did I need to post about? [livejournal.com profile] blue_raven, I'm hoping to email you a wee bit later tonight, kick me if I don't, Wellington people I'm hoping to variously text and/or email you all tomorrow and Friday to organise stuff. *thinks* And our Auckland tickets for the Panic at the Cobra Academy SHENANIGANFEST arrived this afternoon, too, which, SQUEE, and also for once, I must give props to ticketmaster for prompt and efficent service. This may be somewhat unprecedented! *g*

Oh! Hey, does ANYONE have questions they would like me to try and ask Chris Judge at his panel on Saturday? Because I would like to ask something, you know, remotely intelligent or likely to lead to interesting or funny stories, but I can never, ever think of anything not completely toolish to ask in these situations, so... I put myself at your disposal, guys!

Lastly, I must confess that last week's Operation: Big Sister was a dismal, dismal failure on my part - I watched 1x U2 live show DVD and... half a disc of Xena. So I'm fronting up to Jame to pay my forfeit when she assigns it.
Okay, so I realised last night that I am, in fact, kind of an incredible dumbass. I've been running around like a maniac trying to get things sorted for May and June and August shenanigans and... haven't really given a lick of thought (outside of 'do i have a bed to sleep in, y/n?') to the fact I'm going to be in Wellington for about forty eight hours NEXT WEEK. Oops. *sheepish*

So, I get in to Wellington around 3.30pm on the Friday afternoon, at which point I anticipate meeting up with ms [livejournal.com profile] blue_raven at some point shortly thereafter.
Saturday day is convention-related shenanigans, as will Sunday morning be (regrettably, the only useful-to-me-and-not-obscenely-priced flight back is at 4.30pm on Sunday, so i'm only around till, like, 3pm, I guess, since I'll have to get myself to the airport.), but I should be available for breakfast/lunch/coffee/dinner type meetups if people are keen. I have tentative plans for Friday night, but if people want to try and get together for a fangirly dinner (or drinks, I guess?) out somewhere on Saturday, please comment below, or email me, or, uh, suggest somewhere good to eat? I would love to see as many of you lovely local people as possible, so just give us a yell. And I think you all have my cell - comment if you don't, and I can email it to you.
AirNZ finally ponied up some date-appropriate specials, and in spite of the fact that just this morning I was crafting more and more elaborate plans for pre-birthday shenanigans, I... may have decided I would regret NOT doing it more, so I'm coming down to Wellington for Armageddon again this year. Vaguely planny stuff! )

And, your weekly hair-colour-change cam-whore segment. (2x pics) )

HA! I finally remembered my third point. Which is that, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] shoemaster, I can no longer hear the lyric at the end of Behind the Sea as anything OTHER than "waves of pudding legs", which then just put me in mind of the Magic Pudding (who else read that as a kid?), and now I can't stop imagining the Magic Pudding AU. Not, I hasten to add, as a written work. Just the mental images of cartoon!band boys chasing a magic pudding around the Outback. Imagination: blessing or curse? :D
So, I've never done this media guest deal thing at cons before - I've only ever had comic artists sign, and so on, so I am all kinds of !! and bewildered by things, and thusly clutching at [livejournal.com profile] blue_raven and [livejournal.com profile] tshirtgirl a very much lot for direction. As anyone who saw [livejournal.com profile] katrin can attest, we joined the insane queue for photos with Joe, and so, hi, there is now a photo of me with Joe Flanigan. (He apparently had his arm over my shoulder, I so do not remember this.) And wow, tall. And Chris Judge, who we will hopefully do the photo thing with later, oh my god, SO gorgeous. Connor Trinneer is adorable and utterly charming, and told us we looked lovely at the cocktail thing. Um, I feel like there was something else I felt the need to share with the internet but I am drawing a blank right now. Urk. The panels were pretty good today - Connor dealt extremely well with questions that had us cringing and praying for ninjas, and Joe said something (don't recall right now, it'll come back to me) in his panel that gave me a sudden and wild word-geek crush on his brain. We went through the autograph line as well, largely on a just-in-case basis since Joe's leaving at 4 tomorrow, and so I have also stuttered at Chris Judge, Joe Flanigan and Connor Trinneer. I am in no way any fraction approaching 'cool'. (However, not as badly as I stuttered at Lois a few years ago, I think it'd take Hewlett (if that) to equal the mindless panic of trying to tell Lois McMaster Bujold how awesome she is.)

The cocktail evening was not, I gather, quite as chatty as last year (which was probably a good thing for my self-respect, if nothing else, as that's already in tatters this week (yet to be mentioned in my LJ this week: the number of times I have FALLEN OVER SHIT in front of people and hurt myself; I have spent the last three days barely able to move/definitely not reall able to sit/bend), and there was a creepy handsy person, which made, I think, both the guests and the people who saw/heard about it very uncomfortable. ugh, people. WHY. (Send. Ninjas.)

But, yes, is very awesome and I have FABULOUS roommates and hope all is well on internets land. <3

Oh, and I should've said - our hotel is super flash and like a five mintue walk if THAT from Aotea Square, \o/, although our inclination to be enthusiastic about the place took quite a hit this morning when the shower flooded and the first response from reception was to say that no one on Maintenance could look at it until Monday. Yeah, I DON'T THINK SO. We got Assertive. It got fixed.

Um. Yes. people are pretty. Fandom is excellent. I love my show/s. *flails* *and fails at going to bed*

OH MY GOD I think my head just exploded. I just got a comment from [livejournal.com profile] malnpudl which prompted me to go double-check if we have any last minute guests for Armageddon announced at the moment and there are. And now I'm torn between glee and fear that one of them will cancel. )

Also, pub quiz was cancelled tonight - I'd love to say it was because the other team were scared of us, but truthfully they are just pikers, and so we get a free drink next week for showing up tonight anyway. And, um. This happened.

Nicola: *looking mournfully at her bangers and mash* "Who cut my sausage?"
Lyndon: "It tastes better cut, right?" *evil grin*
Me: "LYNDON!" *wide-eyes of Oh No Not More Innuendo, Quelle Horreur!*
Everyone at the table: *twigs* *collectively pee themselves laughing*
Me: *hides* Because:
My mother: *does not stop snickering for at least five minutes*

Lyndon swears he did not mean that and that *I* was the one who took it to the filthy place, I maintain he started it, and am still somewhat traumatised that HANDS DOWN the top three most inappropriate public conversations/innuendo-fests I have witnessed/been embarrassed bypart of have not been with fangirls in any one of four major cities, but with MY MOTHER and the rest of our pub quiz team. ...I come by it honestly?

*continues to fail at internets*

Right. I worked all day and my car went from GREEN \o/ right back to BROWN /o\ in the space of nine hours because it was so dry/dusty/windy and well, I really don't have much of anything to say/contribute to the world. So I'm going to explain about the shoelaces and spam you with some other random pics.

Picspam (13 x photos, 3x icons)! Shoelaces! Kitties! Hawaii! MINOR spoiler (of gesture!) for SGA 3x15 The Game! )

Spoiler for 3x12 Echoes referenced, plus S5 + S6 of SG-1. )
I am so filthy. No, not like that- okay, yes, like that too, but. Seriously. I am grubby. As I said to Kat when I got in, it's like my inner dirty mind is manifesting physically! Because every single person I've seen since I finished work has commented and, okay, I just got out of the shower (after scrubbing a LOT - I am rather pink from it, even) and I still have streaks of grease from wrist to elbow and I just do. not. know.

I mean, I spent the entire day indoors. Doing exactly what I normally do! And R. was out in the Great Outdoors and all and yet he is pristine. I may have said before we left today that obviously he's just been transferring his grime to me when I'm not looking or something. Go figure.

Goodness only knows what the people I work with must think, I just- I am so, so glad I do not have a job which requires me to not look like a total clumsy doof who doesn't wear makeup or uncomfortable clothes.

I plan, fate points and laughs. (Or: To Do Lists and Other Fallacies) )

And, while I'm at it, vague thoughts/waffle about the creative process and also NaNoWriMo. )

And, last cut-tag I promise: not-spoilery At Swim, Two Boys comment. )

And, in conclusion, quote from the lunchroom today which absolutely cracked our shit up (possibly you had to be there?):
R: "Even Kurt Cobain makes more than we do, and he's DEAD!"
Scooting on really freakin late (so, so sorry) to say a very very happy birthday to Ms [livejournal.com profile] izzybeth. I gather from the text I just got that you got snow for your birthday, so that's cool, though I hope, of course, that you get to be warm and snugged up inside with hot drinks and good company (be it personal or, you know, books and videos and music) and just... so very, very much love to you. I was thinking yesterday that this marks the sixth of your birthdays I've been around for, and that we've spent approximately 25 of the last 300 weeks together. Which is, frankly, amazing, and I only wish it was more time. Move to Wellington SOON, okay? I love you dearly, and I wish I could be there to say so in person. (And, uh, I would've called to say so but a) I definitely did NOT want to wake you up if you were trying to sleep, and I couldn't recall if you were working last night or no (it seems yes) and b) I'm losing my voice and can't really hear, so that doesn't work so well.)

So, yes. I hope you had a great day and that this heralds the start of a fabulous year. Kia kaha, babe.

*less-than-threes*

And, in other news, I am wrecked and work tomorrow is going to be... challenging, and character building, and all those frightful types of adjectives, and so pretty much I'm postponing even vaguely attempting to catch up on the weekend until Later. Few tiny comments about this weekend's Armageddon Expo, bonus local fangirls, notes/quotes and video to follow in due course. )
shihadchick: text: "makes awesome injoke that references eight different fandoms, three different countries and also curling" (at least morale was high)
( Oct. 21st, 2006 08:40 pm)
I am so completely fried. Going in to town for about three hours today just wiped me out completely (SO worth it, though) and I want to record it all later here for, well, myself and anyone who's interested, but right now? Going to bed with DVDs. Am kind of annoyed at myself - I was so gone after dinner that, despite the fact I mentioned it at dinner and have been looking forward to it all week, I forgot all about Rachel Luttrell and David Nykl being on Holmes tonight, so I basically, uh, 'sprang' (read: moved like a very very old person) out of the bath and basically sat in front of the tv in a towel and caught the last ten minutes of it. Rats. I mean, Holmes himself is just so- god, he's so ANNOYING and patronising, and he kept kind of ignoring David in Rachel's favour, but the two of them were totally wonderful. They make a superb double act.

I took... a fair bit of shoddy video at Armageddon this afternoon, which I will share later (put it this way: 1min of footage = 20min uploading time, I am not made of patience), but for now, since I uploaded it and it wasn't done before Kat went to bed: David Nykl talks about SF, with a snippet at the end regarding the possibility of Zelenka having scenes with Teyla. I have a few snippety bits of video from SG1 people as well (Tony Amendola and Colin Cunningham (I resolutely kept ALL thoughts about "the Lush Major Davis" well inside my own head during his part, hee)) but the lighting is, in fact, even worse in those, so, uh, yeah. I was too far back, and I feel really bad because I suspect my camera was in the way and, um, guilt.

There may also have been an incident in which I nearly smacked David Nykl's ass (purely by accident, okay?) but, uh, we're not talking about that now. *is so fucking classy*
shihadchick: text: "makes awesome injoke that references eight different fandoms, three different countries and also curling" (give it away [F/K - Joy])
( Sep. 6th, 2006 10:40 pm)
Okay, so I really have nothing much to say (other than: if I was a really, really bad person I would be sitting here creating a filk to "If You Wear That Red Serge" (note: I am not. But I could be.)) and totally wasn't going to post, except:

I just found out Rachel Luttrell AND Summer Glau are supposed to be doing Armageddon in Akl for Labour Weekend. WHOO. Except bugger, because then I have to go and I'm slightly allergic to this whole "paying to get in and paying to meet the 'guests' for ten seconds" deal because, blearh. But. Focusing on the important side of this: awesome women! In this country! Fwee!

In today's news, I stepped on the bottoms of my own trousers (gotta love being short, nothing fits, and if it does, it's miles too long - even when I was loads skinnier I couldn't actually fit clothes for my height, sigh) and tore them halfway to the knee. I ooze class, people.

Also, I spoke to my Nana on my birthday and she told me the "what's for dinner?" "bread and duck under the table!" tradition is from the McKay side. *WINS SO HARD* (also, I kept trying to automatically capitalise "duck". Oh dear.)

Hey, flist - while I think of it - does anyone know off the top of their heads of a fic that has a line something like "I'm kind of a sure thing"? I don't even remember if it was U2 (though I doubt it), dS (gotta be RayK) or SGA (I can see either Rodney or John here but I'd suspect Rodney's more likely in the tone). I'd go to the appropriate finders community if, yannow, I knew which.

In summation: the week is half over! I had dry toast for lunch because my emergency peanut butter had apparently fallen out of my bag and I forgot to pick up soup as it was! I am obsessed with John being gay for the Mountie! I like exclamation points!
super rapid quick update.

Jewel Staite is teeny tiny and adorable and did I mention? Adorable. We only saw her panel as we decided that paying for autographs/photos wasn't really in our budget and we could take photos during the panel for free. Um. Yeah. Also, she is YOUNGER than most of us. Which is... trippy. I did not know that. Also, she was in an episode of SGA?! And I did not know this! Flist? SO FIRED. (I kid cos I love.) I took a large number of very bad photos (we were only like six rows back and it was very loose ,but she was sitting down the whole time so it's pretty much just her head) and also a bunch of video-as-sound-recordings, since my phone is being exceedingly 'special' at the moment and won't record sound or take photos.

But yeah. We also saw John Billingsley (?) who neither of us would've known from Adam, but he was hilarious and great and is nearly making us want to watch Enterprise just because he was so cool. That way leads madness, I know.

We took off after Jewel's panel to the LotR exhibit again (yes, we are using our 30 or so hours in Wellington efficiently!) and saw that again (Boromir is still the most realistic wax figure thing I have ever seen, ngh) and saw all the new stuff from, like, RotK and all. It was awesome. I may have accidently spent a lot of money today. In my defence, I found the two disc edition of Narnia very cheap, I found what seems to be a first edition in hardback of the orange bible (!) and, um. Okay, I suck and am weak but it's just so PRETTY I had to get it. I may have also bought other stuff like maybe a geeky picture to hang above the computer but we're NOT TALKING ABOUT THAT NOW KAY? And yes, there may a little bit be a zed-pee-em in said picture. *facepalms* *gleefully*

Also, we found a video shop that had SGA tonight and, um. Yeah. Me? DOOMED. My credit card? Having accidents TOMORROW. Kat? Prepare for incoming. Heh. I mean, it's no due South. But god is it just... good. I. I swear, the bit? With the balcony? In the second episode? I was in convulsions of glee on the couch. This is GOOD SQUISHY.

I also wrote, like, two hundred words of highwaymiles in a cafe at lunch so... go me? (Okay, strictly speaking, I wrote about a thousand words but there were two very failed attempts to start with, so. heh. Again, this will be a deadline going WHOOSH experience, I feel.)

Hope everyone in Iowa is having a great time, I will sadly be unable to ring as I never got anyone's numbers and, um, I maybe have like two dollars left on my phone anyway if that. Also, Kat? Dunno if you got the phone message this afternoon, I tried to queue it up so you got Duck (so many Ducks in my life. This is not a bad thing) and Miranda Otto. My success may have been limited. (Actually, you're probably sitting there going öh, so THAT'S what that weird call was, oops?)

Also, is it just me or is the SGA theme song sort of lifted almost in its entirety from that of SeaQuest DSV? With a side smooshing of JAG? ...just me then? :D

Chris!! Guess what? The LotR exhibit is back at Te Papa! And it'll still be on for the period that we're in Welly for Armageddon. *poings a LOT* And I'm much better at sneaking my camera into museums nowadays, too! ...wait, that's not what I meant to say. ...Okay, it a little bit is. But, AWESOME. That was so cool. Maybe they'll even have an exhibition book this time. *crosses fingers*

Also, you were right, the curling thing is on at the Avondale Paradice, not the Botany one. So I'll just pick you up en route.

Part for my door is finally in, so Hobbie and I are going back to Toyota to sit there for a few hours soon. Yay. And, okay, YAY because new and working stereo. But... *is lame and doesn't want to go out* Well, at least I have a nice hefty book to read. I just finished the 1947 section of the new Sarah Waters, so 1/3 down...
