I have a friend who's been dealing with racial issues and I told her "Tell people your race is human and wholly American." Then I'm guessing one of her friends comments and tells me I don't understand what it's like to be a "person of color". I calmly explained to her how I've been subjected to the so-called "reverse racism", which is just an excuse to cover up racism towards "white people." I've been harassed, had gum stuck in my hair, had people stick food in my back pack so my books would be covered with peanut butter and jelly. I was in a predominantly non-white school. Mostly everyone was Asian, Central American, or Black. To some, though far from all, I was automatically a racist because I was white. I was also harassed because one of my closest friends was a lesbian.
Then she proceeds to personally tell me that I don't understand what racism is and personally attacks me for my views to be "color blind" to people. That really hit me hard. I've said enough to try to defend myself and all it got me was more discrimination. I'm not going to honor her reply. I just wanted to help out a friend, not get attacked personally. Hate is still hate, no matter where it comes from or goes to.
I just don't get it. What's so wrong with believing that people should be equal? I don't care what you look like, have four legs, or like it up the butt. If you're a good person and a good friend, why should I give a damn what you look like? My friends like me for me, despite all my bad habits, rather crude sense of humor, and annoying laughter. It's obviously not my looks.
This goes straight with the election coming up. Once again, the issue of gay marriage under the law. Note this is civil marriage, completely separate from religion. Decades ago, interracial civil marriage was illegal. Now it's not. It's about same sex couples. You love who you love. People should be equal under the law, not legally discriminated against.
You can bet I'm voting against civil discrimination. People should have the right to marry anyone they want to and gain all the legal rights.
