FOILED AGAIN.

It seems no one carries green argyle fabric. I've found the perfect pattern in paper, but I really don't want to make cosplay out of construction paper. WTF seriously.
satrugha: (darkside)
I must admit, I'm quickly becoming obsessed with Grant Morrison's writing style. I think I will be collecting more of his work. I should read more Batman anyway. It appeals to my dark side.

Yeup. We have no working plumbing. There's something wrong with the pipe going to the street (it cracked and is collapsing or something) so it's stopped. We have to go to 7-11 to take a leak.

Plumbers say the landlord said not to power-flush it. Landlord says it's the plumbers' fault. It was supposed to be fixed yesterday.

I do not care who's fault it is. FIX THE DAMN PIPE. This is unlivable! I'm dirty, need to wash my face (without the sink overflowing), and can't take a dump in my own bathroom. I am dreading going home after work right now.

L;UHAWLEITUGL;AWIUTH;OIAWETH DON'T MAKE ME GO KIRA ON YOU, LANDLORD/PLUMBERS.

So long and thanks for all the fish. They were very good fish. I will miss you and your fish. Dearly.

Dear self.

Dear time change.

I was very happy with waking up at 7am before the time change. It was light outside when I got up. Now, after time change, it's dark when I get up. It's been 4 days. I thought I could adjust, but it's really hard to drag myself out of bed when it's dark.

Stupid time change.
No love
Sam.

Yanno, the hardest part about android programming is getting the computer to recognize your phone as a usable testing device. XP is really a dumbass when it comes to this (7 is much more intelligent, though still a dumbass in its own right).

You'd think they'd make this easier somehow, but Windows is really fickle with USB devices in general. Bah.

I came to look at my DW only to realize nothing's here. I don't think anyone, save maybe 2 people, use failjay anymore either.

My social network consists of RP and kittens.... Good job, Sam. Good job.

So twice in a row have I visited the same places in my dreams.

One place is a bookstore that sells magic books and comics. There's always this weird old guy selling the books and a place in the back of the store to practice magic.

The second one is a mini-mart-sized Kmart. (I'm pretty sure I visited this one on more than just these two occasions.

It all started with a fire (maybe because it's been warm at night?). The first time it burnt down our house, the second a dormitory we were living in. This dorm was weird and had some sort of ledge outside by the window of the living room that weird people kept coming up to (despite not being on the ground floor) and using magic to make threats or fog up the window.

So yeah, the buildings both burnt down. But that was okay because everyone got out and we had renter's insurance (important part there, or something). So we were looking for a new place to live and to get stuff. I walked Mia on a leash (which is funny, because Mia is terrified of the outdoors. Silly kitty). For some reason, Jayden wasn't there.

So our first stop to replenish was the magic/comic book store. There were some books floating around and a guy in the back painting his very long-haired dog (who didn't seem to care). So we looked at books and talked to the weird old guy owner and left. We bought something but I can't remember the titles of the books. They looked like old library books, with their thick outer hard cover and numerous slightly yellowed pages. One book talked about magic circles, including references to real cases and to comic books, showing a magic rune on the back side of Captain America's shield.

Our second stop was the mini-Kmart. We looked at toys, because toys are so a priority and were located conveniently next to the pants. They had Avengers toys and I picked up Captain America to show Zelly but for some reason, Captain America kept turning into Thor aka Thuuuuuur. No one wanted Thor so I put him back. I went to look at clothes and ended up in the tiny lingerie department that had oversized bras and granny panties. I turned around to find my roommates gone, but I just used teleportation magic to find them.

Yeah, I don't really get it either.

Being sick sucked. I don't think I've been that sick for years, since the swine flu epidemic at the office.

So a few years ago, at Namco, there was an outbreak of swine flu. I sat right next to the point of exposure (though he didn't know he was the origin at first). I ended up getting the flu and ended up going to the emergency room. Nope, didn't have swine flu, though they said I was definitely exposed to it. I had the regular flu, dubbed the piglet flu, fullforce with a 103° fever. I was delirious. Thank goodness Jei was able to take me to the hospital.

Since then I haven't really been sick. Until this week. Whatever it was took out 3/4 of the house. Man it kicked my ass. Even worse, the infection got under the artificial septum in my nose. I'm pretty sure the bug's getting its ass kicked. I have a pretty strong immune system. That being said, I was down for a week. A freaking week.

And I worked straight through it taking naps during the day. I guess I really can program in my sleep (or an "altered" state of mind, as my coworkers lovingly put it). Not as many distractions. No overthinking things. Obviously this means I need to distract my mind more so I can focus. (No, it doesn't make sense, and I don't think there's any way it can. It just works that way. Somehow.) I tried it out this morning, and the louder it is, the better I work. I've always listened to music, but I guess I still need louder music to think. I listened to Rammstein when programming at Namco. Everyone knew they had to tap me on the shoulder to get my attention because I was blaring metal music while programming. Who thought loud metal and loud opera would be so beneficial?

Oh man. It sure is nice to have a working laptop again. First the ram went out. Then the hard drive thought it was overheating (which it wasn't. it was actually cold). So I bought a new hard drive and reinstalled windows on it. And now I have my laptop back again! It just wasn't easy to do much on the netbook when I didn't feel like using the desktop.

No more freezing. No more false overheating. All good again.

Oh, also. Good news, everyone! I am now officially insured. Cigna was so nice too. They called me when they had questions. They called me to tell me I was approved. None of that generic letter crap Kaiser pulled on me. Starting the 1st, I need to find a doctor that can deal with my crazy.

SF trip

So meandering around Chinatown in San Fran on a Sunday has to be one of the more interesting trips we've done.

Our first trip was to JapanTown for crepes and noodles and toys. They had a FULL set of Sailor Moon figures on sale. I couldn't resist snagging the bunch off the shelf (they were the last ones). I think they were the ones where you pay $7 for a box of a random toy and don't know what you'll get. Whatever. I'm happy with them. They have a nice new home on the shelf.

Then Chinatown. Sunday is apparently the day everyone goes shopping so we walked through all the markets, sniffed all the fresh food, and drooled over meatbuns (sadly it got cold so we never got one. next time!). And then, I found it. The thing I look for and collect. BOOTLEG SAILOR MOON TOYS. I love bootleg toys! They're so bad and amusing!

So the box looks like an official SuperS box, but the toys were definitely not in their original box. It came with Sailor Moon and Uranus of all characters. Moon has a huge chest and leans backwards. Uranus has these scary red eyebrows and leans sideways. Her feet aren't even.

I took a photo of the official and bootlegs next to each other. I need to fit the other official figures (and other bootlegs) on the shelf with them so I have a full shelf of SM on my wall. Right now, they're sitting next to Jessie and James from pokemon (well until Jessie decided to take a nosedive off my shelf to SOMEWHERE).

pic! )

Oh and I got a small dagger I'm now using as a letter opener and a lot of taffy when we hit up Little Italy.

Crisis averted! Thank you system restore. I still don't know why of ALL my documents, it had to be the code. I'm backing this up right now.

Thanks, Windows. I appreciate the heart attack o_o
satrugha: (HA?!)
WUT THE HELL.

I did a system restore to a past restore point to try to fix this weird issue I was having with my laptop. It's not supposed to affect your files, right? Well it decided that it wanted to roll back the files too. I lost 3 weeks of coding on my game! ARG! I'm so pissed. And why didn't I back it up? OH RIGHT. Because it's not supposed to touch My Documents. GAH!

I'm gonna go throw things and rewrite my code now T_T

Shattered

So, insomnia aside, I finally finished that grandiose novel I've been working on for over three years. The idea's like 7 years old, but that's not the point. I've sent it off to my uncle who knows some publishers. He's written a few sci-fi short stories himself. And while this story isn't sci-fi, at least he may know a few people who might be interested in it. It's kind of an urban fantasy.

I guess it's kind of like Persona crossed with awesome magical battles, heroics, and a high school drama. I call it Shattered. Original, I know, but it's all about symbolism and strength. I'm a sucker for meaningful writing.

So it's out of my hands for now. Doesn't mean I don't think about it. Poured my heart and soul into it. We'll see how it turns out.
