If you love Die Hard, this is for you...

...And really, who doesn't? Communists, that's who. And any other scapegoats you can think of.

It is a statistical fact that Die Hard is the greatest action movie of all time, and the series as a whole is possibly the single most cathartic and satisfying male-directed film experience of all time.

So if you love Die Hard, watch this...

Excellent Text Conversation

Me: Hipster Men: The World's Greatest Fashion Disaster.
Pal: LFMAO. So true, what was he wearing?
Me: It's... I can't even begin. Suffice it to say that a mustache and a six-inch rat tail are NOT complimentary and all the women's jeans and ironic sunglasses in the world won't change that.
Pal: OH GOD KILL IT WITH FIRE.
Me: Lmaonade.
Pal: Drinking it in my roflcopter, thanks.
Me: I could use some, I've been on my lollerskates all day.
Pal: Lulz abound!
Me: We are gong to culture rapists' hell for this you know.
Pal: It'll be a nice party at least. We'll be eternally surrounded by the costumed cast of Barney, but whatever.

Yes, my sense of humor is kind of stupid. Of this I am aware. But there are people out there who are okay with this and even engage in it themselves. These people are my friends.

Y'know...

I try to avoid getting overly "fan-ish" about things, even the things I really, truly love with every ounce of nerdom in my heart.\

HOWEVER.

I am so fucking pumped for this new X-Files movie that even the out-of-the-ballpark enjoyment that Iron Man brought me has already faded to a dull hum.

The first seven seasons of The X-Files had a huge impact on the way I approach fiction writing (particularly characterization) as well as influncing my general taste in the world of genre fiction. Even the 8th and 9th seasons, disappointing as they were, managed some good episodes.

And, at least so far, this movie looks like everything is back to form.

I couldn't be more excited.

Swamp Thing

At work we recently received a used copy of the first volume of the "Swamp Thing" television show from the early 90's. I threw it in the player and have gotten through about half of it.

I have to say that, while the show is not entirely good, it is also by no means entirely bad. I actually felt that the dialogue for Swampy himself was pretty good most of the time. Felt right out of the comics in a lot of scenes. Particularly in the second episode when he converses with a bird who has been turned (mostly) into a human. Oh, and the intro with the whole "Do not bring your evil here" is great. I get a kick out of it every time.

Don't get me wrong, the show was obviously made on a *very* tight budget and it's cheesy as all get-out, but any screen adaptation of a comic book should be at least a *little* cheesy. And it seems like this show made a genuine effort at making something decent even if it only succeeded about half the time. Oh, and the kid was terrible. Maybe it makes me a grumpy jerk, but pretty much every scene with that kid was awful.

Mike, you being the undisputed Swamp Thing master, what did you think? (I am assuming by default that you have watched it.)

Also, I received, for no apparent reason, a DVD of every single Iron Man comic up until 2006 in the mail today. Score!

An Official Apology...

To many that got my Heston text last night.

I had intended to send it to a list of people I *knew* were up at the time. I did something or another wrong and instead sent it to, as far as I can tell, everyone in my damn phone.

It was only midnight, and many of use young folk are awake at that hour, but I know SOME of you must have been asleep, and to those I apologize. Sorry if it woke you up or anything, I'll try to avoid further incidents of cell phone ineptatude.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year*

*Except for: Most of the few people I know around here are gone. There has been very little for me to do. My phone has decided that my SIM card does not work anymore, so I can't even get in touch with the few people that are around. I've either been at work or sitting in my room. Even though I usually pride myself on being a rather accomplished slacker, the third afternoon/evening spent playing Icewind Dale and listening through my favorite band's entire discography is exteremely difficult to justify. I feel like this city is being wasted on me.

I did get fed a million tons of food on Christmas, though. Thanks Autumn.

I am watching the TNT edit of the Selena movie at 2 AM.

So, Martin Nodell died. He created Green Lantern.

It's weird. I really gravitate towards Golden Age comics characters despite the fact that I am far to young to have ever had any direct exposure to them, I never had any of it "handed down" to me from an older relative, and I haven't even really been able to read a lot of it due to time/money issues. It's just been whatever I could fit in from the occaisional bought or borrowed collection books. Maybe it's the "nature" or "spirit" of it, or that I have what generally seems to be very unusual opinions on genre writing compared to a lot of people my age. I am probably just talking out of my ass.

It seems my tastes always run down this path. I'm about 10 to 15 years too young for the music I listen to, and about 25 to 30 years too young for a lot of the movies I really love. It results in me feeling left out a lot of the time. I have a theory that my balding at 17 was a psychosomatic response to this.
