Its bioavailable carbon and nutrient content makes it a major contributor to landfill methane emissions, but also presents an important opportunity for energy recovery. This paper presents the first detailed analysis of monthly food waste generation in California at a county level, and its potential contribution to the state's energy production. Scenarios that rely (...) on excess capacity at existing anaerobic digester and solid biomass combustion facilities, and alternatives that allow for new facility construction, are developed and modeled. Potential monthly electricity generation from the conversion of gross food waste using a combination of AD and combustion varies from 420 to 700 MW, averaging 530 MW. At least 66% of gross high moisture solids and 23% of gross low moisture solids can be treated using existing county infrastructure, and this fraction increases to 99% of high moisture solids and 55% of low moisture solids if waste can be shipped anywhere within the state. Biogas flaring practices at AD facilities can reduce potential energy production by 10 to 40%.. (shrink)

We endorse policymakers’ efforts to address the negative consequences of the attention economy’s technology but add that these approaches are often limited in their criticism of the systemic context of human attention. Starting from Buddhist philosophy, we advocate a broader approach: an ‘ecology of attending’ that centers on conceptualizing, designing, and using attention (1) in an embedded way and (2) focused on the alleviating of suffering. With ‘embedded’ we mean that attention is not a neutral, isolated mechanism but a meaning-engendering (...) part of an ‘ecology’ of bodily, sociotechnical and moral frameworks. With ‘focused on the alleviation of suffering’ we mean that we explicitly move away from the (often implicit) conception of attention as a tool for gratifying desires. We analyze existing inquiries in these directions and urge them to be intensified and integrated. As to the design and function of our technological environment, we propose three questions for further research: How can technology help to acknowledge us as ‘ecological’ beings, rather than as self-sufficient individuals? How can technology help to raise awareness of our moral framework? And how can technology increase the conditions for ‘attending’ to the alleviation of suffering, by substituting our covert self-driven moral framework with an ecologically attending one? We believe in the urgency of transforming the inhumane attention economy sociotechnical system into a humane ecology of attending, and in our ability to contribute to it. (shrink)

This paper answers some questions of D. Ross in [R]. In § 1, we show that some consequences of the ℵ0- or ℵ1-special model axiom in [R] cannot be proved by the κ-isomorphism property for any cardinal κ. In § 2, we show that with one exception, the ℵ0-isomorphism property does imply the remaining consequences of the special model axiom in [R]. In § 3, we improve a result in [R] by showing that the κ-special model axiom is equivalent to (...) the ℵ0-special model axiom plus κ-saturation. (shrink)

In § 1 of this paper, we characterize the isomorphism property of nonstandard universes in terms of the realization of some second-order types in model theory. In § 2, several applications are given. One of the applications answers a question of D. Ross in [this Journal, vol. 55 (1990), pp. 1233-1242] about infinite Loeb measure spaces.

Conspiracy beliefs have been linked to perceptions of collective victimhood. We adopt an individual perspective on victimhood by investigating the relationship between conspiracy beliefs and the individual disposition to perceive and react to injustice as a victim, i.e., victim justice sensitivity (VJS). Data from two German samples (Ns = 370, 373) indicated a positive association between VJS and conspiracy mentality beyond conceptually related covariates (e.g., mistrust). In a multinational sample from 15 countries (N = 14,978), VJS was positively associated with (...) both general and specific conspiracy beliefs (about vaccines and climate change) within countries, though these associations varied across countries. However, economic, sociopolitical and cultural country-level factors that might explain the cross-country variability (e.g., GDP, Human Freedom Index, individualism–collectivism), including indices of collective exposure to direct violence, did not moderate the studied associations. Future research should investigate the relationship between victimhood and conspiracy beliefs, considering both intraindividual and intergroup perspectives. (shrink)

We prove that if is a model of size at most [kappa], λ[kappa] = λ, and a game sentence of length 2λ is true in a 2λ-saturated model ≡ , then player has a winning strategy for a related game in some ultrapower ΠD of . The moves in the new game are taken in the cartesian power λA, and the ultrafilter D over λ must be chosen after the game is played. By taking advantage of the expressive power of (...) game sentences, we obtain several applications showing the existence of ultrapowers with certain properties. In this paper we show that the compactness of a Loeb space depends on its cardinality, the nonstandard universe it belongs to and the underlying model of set theory we live in. In $\S1$ we prove that Loeb spaces are compact under various assumptions, and in $\S2$ we prove that Loeb spaces are not compact under various other assumptions. The results in $\S1$ and $\S2$ give a quite complete answer to a question of D. Ross in [9], [11] and [12].

Attention Restoration Theory proposes that exposure to natural environments helps to restore attention. For sustained attention—the ongoing application of focus to a task, the effect appears to be modest, and the underlying mechanisms of attention restoration remain unclear. Exposure to nature may improve attention performance through many means: modulation of alertness and one’s connection to nature were investigated here, in two separate studies. In both studies, participants performed the Sustained Attention to Response Task before and immediately after viewing a meadow, (...) ocean, or urban image for 40 s, and then completed the Perceived Restorativeness Scale. In Study 1, an eye-tracker recorded the participants’ tonic pupil diameter during the SARTs, providing a measure of alertness. In Study 2, the effects of connectedness to nature on SART performance and perceived restoration were studied. In both studies, the image viewed was not associated with participants’ sustained attention performance; both nature images were perceived as equally restorative, and more restorative than the urban image. The image viewed was not associated with changes in alertness. Connectedness to nature was not associated with sustained attention performance, but it did moderate the relation between viewing the natural images and perceived restorativeness; participants reporting a higher connection to nature also reported feeling more restored after viewing the nature, but not the urban, images. Dissociation was found between the physiological and behavioral measures and the perceived restorativeness of the images. The results suggest that restoration associated with nature exposure is not associated with modulation of alertness but is associated with connectedness with nature. (shrink)

This book provides practical and research-based chapters that offer greater clarity about the particular kinds of teacher reflection that matter and avoids talking about teacher reflection generically, which implies that all kinds of reflection are of equal value.

In recent years, philosophical ideas developed during the Wei-Jin period, broadly referred to as xuanxue in Chinese and ‘Neo-Daoism’ or ‘Dark Learning’ in English, have been accorded increasing attention in academia. This article provides an introduction to some major thinkers of the Wei-Jin period, addressing both their original writings and recent scholarly interpretations. The article aims to demonstrate that many Wei-Jin period intellectuals formed their theories through reinterpreting the relationship between texts associated with Daoism and Confucianism. Thinkers of this period (...) often attempted to show how these defining ‘schools’ of pre-Qin Chinese thought did not propose theories that were fundamentally inconsistent, and that their ideas could be woven together as elements of a coherent view. This intellectual movement can thus be, and often has been, viewed as an attempt to integrate Daoism and Confucianism. However, a more nuanced reading demonstrates that these thinkers were reworking the relationship between what were seen as predominately Daoist or Confucian themes from their very foundation. Accordingly, the common description of Wei-Jin thinkers as ‘Daoist’ is decidedly incongruous. (shrink)

Background As health education robots may potentially become a significant support force in nursing practice in the future, it is imperative to adhere to the European Union’s concept of “Responsible Research and Innovation” (RRI) and deeply reflect on the ethical risks hidden in the process of intelligent robotic health education. Aim This study explores the perceptions of professional nursing professionals regarding the potential ethical risks associated with the clinical practice of intelligent robotic health education. Research design This study adopts a (...) descriptive phenomenological approach, employing Colaizzi’s seven-step method for data analysis. Participants and research context We conducted semi-structured interviews with 17 nursing professionals from tertiary comprehensive hospitals in China. Ethical considerations This study has been approved by the Ethics Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Jiangsu Provincial Second Chinese Medicine Hospital. Findings Nursing personnel, adhering to the principles of RRI and the concept of “person-centered” care, have critically reflected on the potential ethical risks inherent in robotic health education. This reflection has primarily identified six themes: (a) threats to human dignity, (b) concerns about patient safety, (c) apprehensions about privacy disclosure, (d) worries about implicit burdens, (e) concerns about responsibility attribution, and (f) expectations for social support. Conclusions This study focuses on health education robots, which are perceived to have minimal ethical risks, and provides rich and detailed insights into the ethical risks associated with robotic health education. Even seemingly safe health education robots elicit significant concerns among professionals regarding their safety and ethics in clinical practice. As we move forward, it is essential to remain attentive to the potential negative impacts of robots and actively address them. (shrink)

D'Ambrosio (bio)Tao Jiang's Origins of Moral-Political Philosophy in Early China: Contestation of Humaneness, Justice, and Personal Freedom (hereafter Origins) has sparked much scholarly debate. Already numerous presentations, various types of discussions, and reviews have appeared based on Origins. The present review focuses specifically on the Zhuangzi chapter. The entire project actually began, Jiang writes, fifteen years ago as a book on (...) the Zhuangzi. Through his research Jiang realized he needed to learn more about the objects of philosophical ridicule and critique in the Zhuangzi. Origins is the result of this decade-and-a-half study.Origins provides a somewhat novel framework for reading Warring States period philosophy. Summarizing the basic structure of his project Jiang writes: "I make the case that the philosophical dialectics between the partialist humaneness and imperialist justice formed the fundamental dynamics underlying the mainstream moral-political project during the classic period, with the musing on personal freedom as the outlier" (p. 35). As Karyn Lai puts it, Origins revolves around a "predictable set of inherited pre-Qin texts associated with key figures, traditionally called the "Masters" (zi 子) text" (Lai 2022, p. 181). Some models inherited by the "masters," such as yinyang 陰陽 thinking or ming 名 (names) and shi 實 (actualities), are nearly absent in Origins and would cast new light on the project as well [End Page 458] as the tradition. In this review I will first outline Jiang's reading of the Zhuangzi before considering how a richer appreciation of the Chinese tradition, especially its own methodological tools, frameworks, and concepts, could bolster the exciting contributions Origins stands to make. We will start with Jiang's big picture view of the Zhuangzi.In Origins the Zhuangzi is taken to be a completely unique text. It does not engage in the moral and political discourse the other "masters" texts are subsumed by, and instead of supporting either partialist humaneness or impartialist justice it "muses" on personal freedom. Jiang defines: "Personal freedom is understood as the appreciation and cultivation of personal space wherein one can be left alone and enjoy the company of like-minded friends without being entangled in the sociopolitical world" (p. 36). There are two significant points to note about Jiang's understanding of freedom. First, it is almost a word-for-character definition of how the "Seven Worthies of the Bamboo Grove" have been described by many. Research on these philosophical works could significantly enrich Jiang's reading, albeit from a different angle. Second, Guo Xiang's 郭象 (d. 312) emphasis on, and philosophical explorations of, du 獨 (an interconnected type of "lone") would further fill out how freedom and relationality—which are both attributed to the Zhuangzi by Jiang—are connected.In addition to a "fierce advocacy for personal freedom" Jiang classifies the Zhuangzi as a "singular outlier" for ridiculing the "misguided character of [the contestations between humaneness and justice] and warn[ing] against their potential for inhumanity and injustice" (p. 49). Indeed, the Zhuangzi does demonstrate that these discussions can elicit "the very opposite of what was intended by the participants of the mainstream discourse" (p. 49). Its criticisms are even more penetrating when we appreciate its deeper point about "names being the guests of actualities" (Zhuangzi 1:4). From this perspective the Zhuangzi is not against systems of humaneness or justice as such. It rather points out that humaneness does not have a single referent, nor could that referent be reliably distinguished. The name "humane" does not guarantee humane action, or really anything in particular. The same is true for "justice." We will return to these points below.Jiang's chapter on the Zhuangzi begins by defending moral and political readings of the text. It is an outlier from the perspective of the "humanity-justice" framework, but this only means that the moral-political discourse Zhuangists were engaged in was different. The result was that already by the early Han and by the time of Sima Qian 司馬遷 (d. 86 b.c.e.) "Zhuangzi's teachings were … of little use to contemporary political discourse" (p. 288). Jin Yuelin 金嶽霖 was a Chinese philosopher and logician. From 1914 to 1920 he studied at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University, and received his Ph.D. in political science from Columbia in 1920. From 1921 until 1925, he studied in Europe and visited Great Britain, Germany, France, and Italy, among other countries. During these years, he studied at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences and at the University of Cambridge. At the end of 1925, Jin returned to (...) China and soon became a professor at Tsinghua University, where he began teaching logic in 1926. While trauma can be physical, it can also be psychological, social, political, economic, and cultural—encompassing the immediate effects of global pandemics, the ongoing impacts of ethnic and gender bias, the intergenerational legacies of colonization and geopolitical strife, and the planetary ramifications of (...) anthropogenic climate disruption. Ours is an era in which differences of histories, cultures, and identities are engaged as sources of insight, but also one of retrenchment—a period of relational appreciation, but also one of schism. The global scientific community’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic was a stunning example of human potential for empathetic collaboration in the face of global personal and public health trauma. Yet, the economic trauma of the pandemic has resulted in crumbling international alliances, deepening trade wars, and an unfortunate collective reinvestment in zero-sum endgame framings of geopolitics against which there is no vaccination and through which the terms of healing have become delinked from the restoration of global wholeness. These traumas do not stop shaping our lives when the immediate danger comes to an end. Traumatic pain remains stored in the memories of peoples and individuals, it populates their imagination and shapes horizons of possibility. Thus a philosophical exploration of trauma and healing is not only diagnostic of current problems but also a form of genealogy. We invite participants to reflect upon the relational complexity of both trauma and healing, critically and historically engaging concrete occurrences of trauma while also drawing out theoretical insights regarding healing that strengthens and empowers and resists the forms of personal and social amnesia that make the repetition of trauma so tragically common. Of special interest are panels and papers that explore the trauma and healing at all scales from the interpersonal, to the relational traumas experienced by nations at war and cultures in conflict, thus addressing the interplay of the private and public spheres, of ethics and economics, of the human and the natural sciences, and among disciplines, classes, genders, and generations. This article looks at the theory of modes of exchange from one of the leading contemporary Japanese philosophers, Kōjin Karatani’s (柄谷行人 1941–), and examines how mode of exchange D (or pure gift) can contribute to the realization of a world republic. After discussing Karatani’s theory, this article elaborates on the educational implications of it. In Karatani’s own writings, he highlights the importance of associationism and student movements in the repetitive return of mode of exchange D. Another Japanese thinker, Satoji Yano (...) (矢野智司 1954–), further develops the idea of pure gift in educational settings and emphasizes the importance of changing our language in educational and pedagogical discourse in order to correctly take account of the event of pure gift. The earliest references to Darwin in China, which came by way of the network of Protestant missionaries, emerged in the early 1870s: the principle of general transformism and ideas about human origins were transmitted to the Chinese intellectual landscape. Only with the “evolutionary sensation” aroused by Yan Fu, in the mid-1890s, did Chinese readers begin to learn of Darwinian principles like the “struggle for existence” and “natural selection.” Translation of the Origin began much later, in 1902, and the initial effort (...) was misleading. In his translation of the first five chapters of the Origin, published before 1906, Ma Junwu used linguistic strategies to modify Darwin’s texts so as to reflect Yan’s progressive transformism. But in his 1920 translation of the book in its entirety, Ma redid his earlier work. The complete Chinese Origin did not generate a sensation in the biological community. Even so, the deliberate selection, absorption, and appropriation of Darwinian ideas by the Chinese over the next several decades assimilated the new evolution into their own cultural setting. From the perspective of the complex system, university ranking is a complex system that involves multiagent actors, which evolve over time. Yet, current major university rankings fail to reflect the system dynamics of the university innovation system. In this paper, we apply the complex system model in the field of the university innovation system in the context of university ranking in the countries along the Belt and Road, which is a long-term overlooked field. We introduce a new method of university (...) ranking based on the “winning and losing” relationship to measure the relative competitiveness between universities. Jsem rád, že mohu přispět ke vzpomínání na profesora Lubomíra Nového, a vážím si toho, že jsem mohl být jedním z mnoha jeho studentů. Lubomír Nový dokázal koncem šedesátých let spolu se svými kolegy vytvořit na Katedře dějin filosofie brněnské Filosofické fakulty pro nás studenty velmi vstřícnou atmosféru. On sám v ní vynikal především svým dyna- mismem. Zkouška u něho nebyla jednoduchá, protože byla současně školou kladení otázek a hledání odpovědí. Myslím, že toto kladení otázek a hledání odpovědí bylo jeho (...) celoživotním krédem. Díky němu byl také jednou z profilových osobností tvůrčího filosofického myšlení u nás v letech šedesátých. A tvůrčí osobností zůstal i v letech devadesátých, tedy po návratu ke své profesi po vynucené odmlce. (shrink)

There is little question that the concept of wu 無, variously translated as “nothing,” “nonbeing,” and “negativity,” is central to the early medieval Chinese intellectual enterprise. Famously, the Jin shu 晉書 (History of the Jin dynasty [265–420]) relates that during the Zhengshi 正始 reign period (240–249) of the Wei dynasty (220–265), He Yan 何晏 (d. 249), Wang Bi 王弼 (226–249), and others established the view, on the basis of their interpretation of the Laozi 老子 and the Zhuangzi 莊子, that all (...) beings “have their roots in wu” (以無為本). Ji Kang (嵇康), whose courtesy name is Shu Ye (叔夜), was born in the county of Zhi (铚) in the kingdom of Qiao (谯国) in 223 A.D. and was killed in 262 A.D. In The History of the Jin Dynasty, there is a paragraph about his life.

Guo Xiang (郭象), style name Zi Xuan (子玄), was born in Luoyang, Henan (河南洛阳). He was born in the fourth year of the Jiaping reign of the Wei Dynasty (嘉平四年, 252 A.D.) and died in the sixth year of the Yongjia reign of the Western Jin Dynasty (永嘉六年, 312 A.D.).

Ji Kang (223-262 A.D.) was a noted thinker, man of letters, and musician of the period of the Three Kingdoms and of the state of Cao-Wei. His thought possessed very salient characteristics of the spirit of those times. Since the decline of the Han dynasty, owing to the turmoil of the society and internal developments within Chinese thought, the classical scholarship [jing xue] of the earlier and latter Han dynasties had gradually but steadily begun to lose its role and ability (...) to maintain orthodox dominance over thought. In the period after the Eastern Han, some keen-thinking people started afresh and began to explore once again and reevaluate the real value and meaning of humanity (or being a human being) and that of the world as a whole. This kind of exploration led to an intellectual return to the world itself (including a return to humanity in itself), or, a return to "nature." One might say that the exaltation of "nature" was the spirit of the age for the Wei-Jin period—its zeitgeist, if you will. One could also go on to say that this spirit reached its peak of development in the ideas of Ruan Ji and Ji Kang. Ruan Ji and Ji Kang both considered nature [ziran] to be the supreme existence and the highest law and principle. They believed that: "Heaven and Earth [tiandi] are born of nature [ziran], then all things [wanwu] are born of Heaven and Earth.". (shrink)

In the Czech Republic, the year 2016 saw nationwide celebrations of the seven-hundredth anniversary of the birth of Charles iv, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor (1316-1378). Dominating the event, a grand exhibition, titled “Emperor Charles iv 1316-2016, the First Czech-Bavarian Land Exhibition”, was organized by the National Gallery in Prague and the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg and launched by both countries’ highest governemental and church representatives. From the perspective of 2016, the author looks back to similar yet completely different (...) celebrations of the six-hundredth anniversary of the death of Charles iv in 1978 during the period of “normalization” in the Czech Republic. Based on archival documents, historical press, and exhibition catalogues, the article depicts the political backdrop of the similarly spectacular exhibitions held in Prague Castle, Nuremberg, and Cologne. In the socialist Czechoslovakia of 1978, the art of the Luxembourg Era was held hostage and exploited as a tool of political power. At the same time, art history teetered on the edge between scientific research and the pressure of ideology. Rok 2016 se nesl v České republice ve znamení celonárodních oslav 700. narození českého krále a římského císaře Karla IV. Lucemburského (1316-1378). Během roku byl uspořádán bezpočet výstav v galeriích, muzeích i ve veřejném prostoru a Karel IV. vstoupil prakticky do všech masmédií a mediálních strategií. Zapojily se i univerzity a ústavy Akademie věd. Oslavám vévodila grandiózní výstava, uspořádaná Národní galerií ve spolupráci s Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg nejprve v Praze a poté v Norimberku. Byla nazvána „Císař Karel IV. 1316-2016, první česko-bavorská zemská výstava“ a zahajovali ji nejvyšší představitelé vlády i církve obou zemí. Klára Benešovská se vrací v zorném úhlu těchto velkolepých akcí roku 2016 k podobným, a přece zcela jiným oslavám 600. výročí úmrtí Karla IV. v roce 1978, tedy v době hluboké normalizace v České republice, která zavládla po potlačení tzv. Pražského jara invazí spojeneckých vojsk tehdejší Varšavské smlouvy. Na základě archivních dokumentů, dobového tisku a výstavních katalogů odkrývá politické zákulisí tehdejších neméně velkolepých výstav v Praze na Pražském hradě a v sousedním Německu, v Norimberku a Kolíně nad Rýnem, provázených rovněž vědeckými konferencemi. Umění se stalo ve službách ideologie do značné míry rukojmím. V Praze bylo v područí komunistické strany a vlády, která nařídila pojmout výstavu o Karlovi IV. jako ukázku uměleckého a společenského vývoje směřujícího od slovanských počátků k zářivé socialistické současnosti. V Norimberku na císařské falci byla výstava “Kaiser Karl IV. Staatsmann und Mäzen” organizována historiky, kteří vesměs pocházeli z území někdejších Sudet, a mohli se opřít o své bádání z předválečných a válečných let v České republice. Přizvali však ke spolupráci i několik kolegů českých. Třetí, a z hlediska dějin umění přelomovou událostí, byla výstava uspořádaná v Kunsthalle v Kolíně nad Rýnem, “Die Parler und der schöne Stil 1350-1400. Europäische Kunst unter den Luxemburgern”. Její hlavní autor, tehdejší ředitel Schnütgen-Museum, Anton Legner rovněž rodák z českých Sudet, ji pojal výsostně uměleckohistoricky a podařilo se mu na ní shromáždit díla z obou stran železné opony v nebývalém a již nikdy neopakovaném množství. Získání zápůjček z čssr a účasti předních českých uměleckých historiků dosáhl díky oficiální žádosti o tuto spolupráci, vyslovenou německým prezidentem Walterem Scheelem při první návštěvě českého prezidenta Gustava Husáka v Německu. S výsledky kolínské výstavy a zejména doprovodných pěti publikací se pak evropské bádání vyrovnávalo léta; staly se paradigmatem v bádání o umění doby Lucemburků a ohlašovaly střídání generačních názorů a metodologií. České medievistické bádání však v porovnání s německými akcemi zůstalo do značné míry nadále „ve vězení“ i přesto, že maximum svého úsilí vložilo do kvalitní instalace středověkého umění v rámci výstavy na Pražském hradě. Připravený vědecký katalog ale zůstal nevydán, mezinárodní účast na vědecké konferenci byla mizivá a sborník svojí typografií špatný. Jediným výsledkem byl průvodce, jehož vzhled i obsah je dodnes příznačným svědectvím o Art(history) in Prison v čssr roku 1978. (shrink)

Autor článku se snaží dokázat, že při formulaci vhodných kritérií je možné (a užitečné) provést komparaci a hierarchizaci kultur. Práce se opírá o teoreticko-historickou metodu (Smith, Hume) i o metodologické přínosy Hayeka (kompozitivní metoda). V souladu s konceptem svobody, který je rozvíjen u Kanta, Hegela, Černého, Patočky, je v návaznosti na Fukuyamu koncipován "ideální typ" konce-vrcholu dějin. Je jím kombinace klasické liberální demokracie a kapitalismu volné tržní soutěže. Jak ukazuje historická evidence, směřování k tomuto vrcholu je inherentní tendencí samotného dějinného (...) pohybu. Pouze klasická liberální demokracie spojená s kapitalismem laissez-faire umožňuje v nejvyšší možné míře uspokojovat lidské potřeby a rozvíjet lidskou přirozenost; tento systém poskytuje prostor pro vrcholný stupeň individuální svobody, totožné se zákonem a zahrnující odpovědnost za právní a politický řád, který umožňuje spontánní fungování volné tržní soutěže. Takto formulovanou svobodu nalézáme pouze v západní kultuře. Na závěr práce je argumentována problematičnost integrace příslušníků kultury s nižší mírou svobody. (shrink)

Tato stať - "Úvod do dějepisu jako společenské vědy" - se zabývá těmito otázkami: 1. Co je dějepis a čím se zabývá? 2. Zabývá-li se dějepis též a zvláště smyslem společensko-lidských dějin, mají společensko-lidské dějiny smysl, a mají-li smysl, tedy jaký? 3. Ať již mají, či nemají nějaký smysl, jaký možný smysl má studium dějepisu, resp. jaký možný smysl studium dějepisu může mít a kdy jej může mít? - Zabývajíc se těmito otázkami, je tato stať úvodem do společenských věd jako (...) s dějepisem spjatých a jím vázaných vazbou jejich logického principu s jejich principem historickým.
