peasina: (❝ fruit - strawberries ❞)
Battleship is over (well, it's technically still in the anon period, but the game part is over) and I've been meaning to post this wrap-up to my journal for a while but I guess I was a little burned out from it all. Which is nice in a way, because I'm burnt out following a flurry of productivity. I hadn't written, podded, or made art in ages, so it was a happy burn out, and I've ignited again since ^^

I was on Team Strawberry - we came second! I had a really fun time this year. The first half of the event was where I went the most ham, hitting work cap for board one, then boss wordcount cap for boss one. Then I unfortunately got hit with a bunch of withdrawal symptoms after tapering off some medication, where I could only function for a few hours a day. It suuuuuucked. I had to take a week off work, and I might have overdone it by using the small amount of energy I had in the mornings to make things rather than do the adult thing and rest.

I'm almost completely recovered now, and have caught up with commenting on my awesome gifts. If you'd like to come and look around the event's shiny collection (of 3,500 works!!) you can find it here.

Now I've gotten over my burnout, I'll hopefully be posting on here more again (I have so many drafts started!) If you took part in Battleship this year I'd love to hear about your experience too.

Teams have been announced for this year's [community profile] battleshipex - I'm on Team Strawberry! 🍓🍓🍓

I’ve been chatting with [personal profile] peaked about our goals for this year's event, and I decided to go ahead and write a bucket list. I find that posting stuff here on my journal helps me make it happen, so here are my top ten wishes for this year’s event.

1. Make at least 10 Pokémon works
I’m splitting this one up into writing at least five things, making at least three pieces of art, and recording at least two podfics. I think I’ll struggle most with the writing one, but I do love a challenge.

2. Make a 10k podfic for a boss
It was last year’s Battleship that [personal profile] jocundasykes finally convinced me to try punch and roll editing with my podfic. It was only through this that I realised I can record much longer stories much more easily, as the editing won’t be a nightmare! In fact, for last year's Battleship I recorded 10.5 hours of podfic, whereas in all prior Battleships combined I recorded 6 hours total. Wild!

3. Create works that contain all three of my claimed tags
My claimed tags were bisexual character, sutures, and condom use. I’m excited to see where they’ll appear on the boards!

4. Write 10k (in total)
I’ve barely written a thing so far this year, so this is quite the lofty goal for me.

5. Pick up a new canon and create something for it
I’ve loved doing this in previous Battleships for treatless people. It’s so fun, and I have my fair share of 5-minute fandoms so I know how much joy a gift for them can bring :)

6. Make something for at least 10 of my pre-Battleship prompt claims
I have made 20 claims as of posting this bucket list, so that’s half of them. I’m confident.

7. Reach work cap for at least one round
I reached work cap in one round last year, so it’ll be fun to repeat that if possible.

8. Write something that a podficcer on my team podfics
I’d be honoured and excited! There are already offers in our collab channel for podfics of written works for double-tapping the board squares, so I'll be sure to take people up on them ^^

9. Make new friends
🤞🤞🤞

10. Write fic for a canon I know but have never written for before
Battleship always gets me out of my comfort zone, so I’m really hoping this will happen. I recently played the Date Everything game... perhaps that will be the one, but we'll see!

peasina: peas in a pod floating through space (peas in space)
I signed up to [community profile] battleshipex this year because of how motivating I found it in 2021 when I was on Team Void. I didn't think I'd sign up again, because while I did make a lot of podfic that year, I didn't find the format easy to make friends. What spurred me to sign up was the hope that having a team, challenges, and a goal would get me through a period of being well and truly stuck with podfic. It worked! Getting to know members of Team Tower this year was an unexpected bonus. Winning was another. 😁

Another [community profile] voiceteam work I'm crossposting here! This work is attached to three collections now: [community profile] battleshipex (which it was originally recorded for), Voice Team (which had a challenge to finish and post your WIPs, hence why I'm posting it this late for the original event), and now [community profile] podfic_bingo. It fulfills my 'Het' square :-) -- Blackout achieved! My card is here.
peasina: peas in a pod floating through space (peas in space)
For a twelve-day period in mid-July, I was firing shots and sinking ships with the Void Team as part of [community profile] battleshipex. We won(!) and the collection, here, is crammed with amazing fanworks from both teams and definitely worth checking out - I'm lucky enough to have three glorious gifts in there, all fic for my rare pairs that I love! (Also, my new spacey icon was inspired by the Void Team being lost in space. I'm not sure how peas manage to look cute, but I really think they do floating out there among the stars.)

The exchange's concept is like a real game of battleship, though you can only fire shots on the opposing team's board if you create the grid reference's required number of fanworks containing a certain tag (each square has a different tag and requires a specific number of works.) With these goals in mind, I was hugely inspired to record podfics to sink ships - 26 of them! I can't believe that's more than I made throughout Voice Team 2021 and Voice Team Mystery Box... but I guess I just can't resist a bit of fannish competition!

I also wrote and podficced a drabble collection for Neko Atsume which was illustrated by the wonderful comicArtistA. You can find that here!

To prevent a wall of podfic posts going up on my journal at once, I've saved them up as private posts, and just hit publish on them. I now have the mammoth task of transferring all of these over to archive.org (they're currently hosted on Dropbox due to the exchange's anonymous requirements) and will be slowly working my way through that over the coming days. *sweats* If you'd rather not scroll back to see them all, here's a list of what I created, organised by fandom!
