I'll Be Your Pika Dad.
Jul. 5th, 2026 10:59 amI found something so adorable and sweet at a local thrift recently... Unfortunately, the custom voice recording that was put into this big and soft, huggable Pikachu was briefly present after I first discovered it. But I still remember how assuring and soft, and full of care this guy's message was when his kid still had this Build-a-Bear Pikachu: "Hey buddy, it's Daddy... Want to let you know, wherever you are, I'm never far away."
This dad loved his child so, so much! My heart sank when I first noticed the voice recording couldn't be heard anymore. I guess, in my inspiration for this new character along with his adorable plush Pikachu (bigger and better than the plush Pikachu I once had), that spirit along with the recording has just been absorbed into me.
Just from this recording alone, I know this new character is a loving, comforting, assuring, soft-spoken presence. This Pikachu is meant be, in the songs, as an "Everyone's Dad" type. I'm so lucky to have found him. <3 Welcome home, Pika Dad!
(Mood: Gentle. Soothing. Warm. Supportive. This big Pikachu plush and Fox are meeting each other for the first time. This Pikachu introduces himself and naturally starts treating Fox like she's his daughter. Genre: Singer/Songwriter, Acoustic guitar. The voice for the new character, Pika Dad, is to sound warm and friendly. He would also sing soft and sweetly. He doesn't need to raise his voice for any reason, especially not when he thinks his newfound kid will need a hug.)
[Intro, singing][FOX:]
My handmade butterfly clip,
It doesn't want to fit,
On any zippers of my new backpack.
They appear to be too small.
I look at it, and stall,
Unsure of what to do with it now...
[spoken, surprised][female vocal]
"Oh... Damn, my little charm of Pumpkin fell off... I didn't see it drop to the floor, so it must be on the bed..."
[singing][PIKA DAD:]
I'm sure it's still nearby.
I'll help if you don't mind.
This must be important to you.
You gave the charm a lovely name...
[Verse 1]
Aside from what just happened,
How are you doing today?
I'm so glad we've met.
So kind of you to bring me along,
And invite me into your home.
Your little stars on your wall,
Did you put them up yourself?
Don't you worry about this.
You didn't mean to drop Pumpkin.
This is unexpected,
But with enough time,
And patience in mind,
I'm sure we'll find it.
[Pre-Chorus 1][FOX:]
Thank you for helping.
My charm is special to me.
...You really do act fatherly.
You appear to be so sweet.
[Chorus 1][PIKA DAD:]
It's alright to not trust right away.
I want you to know that, okay?
You're doing well.
You're protecting your space.
I'll be here at your pace.
If you want, I will stay.
Let's look for your charm.
I promise, I mean no harm.
My recording is not gone.
It's found a new place to belong.
Inside of your memory,
Your heart will carry,
The old message from a daddy,
Who put in so much love when making me.
If you're alright with that,
I'll be your Pika Dad.
If not, then as a good friend.
No pressure. No rushing it.
[Verse 2][FOX:]
[spoken, soft][female vocal]
"Thanks..."
[singing]
Looks like a little cat-head,
It must be still on the bed.
I didn't see it fall to the floor.
Let's look around some more...
Maybe it's under the covers.
Maybe under another plush.
I'm glad you like my room.
It's full of things I love.
This little charm of mine,
It's important to find.
It has a special meaning,
Connected to memories.
[Pre-Chorus 2][PIKA DAD:]
Memories close to your heart,
They're stories of their own.
Take your time on where to start,
Wherever it feels comfortable.
[Chorus 2]
Stay calm. We'll keep looking.
I trust in your instincts.
You're doing good so far.
You're checking thoroughly.
I'll be here at your pace.
If you want, I will stay.
Let's look for your charm.
I promise, I mean no harm.
My recording is not gone.
It's found a new place to belong.
A gentle, brand-new memory,
For your heart to carry,
The old message from a daddy,
Who put in so much love when making me.
If you're alright with that,
I'll be your Pika Dad.
If not, then as a good friend.
No pressure. No rushing this.
[Bridge, spoken][female vocal]
"I found it, under my quilt..."
[singing]
I didn't know I'd feel this much.
This is more than just a charm.
It reminds me of Pumpkin.
She's one of three cats,
Sweethearts I really miss.
This weight inside my chest,
It's softened only a bit.
I have some other things,
That connect me to Xena and Sam.
Cat toys and a baby doll,
Things that belonged to them.
[Mini-Break, spoken, softly][PIKA DAD:]
"You loved them so much, to want to keep what was theirs... Grief is a long, winding road, and it's okay to be only midway through. There's no rush to get to the end. Go one heartbeat at a time... Do what feels natural, and be gentle with yourself..."
[Final Chorus]
I could be your Pika Dad.
Not replacing who you've had.
Just want you to know--my offer's still there.
I'll be here to support you, my dear. I care.
I could tell from the start,
You have a wonderful heart.
You're making more space,
While keeping memories in place.
I know I'm where I need to be.
You'll get lots of love from me.
Hugs, nuzzles, and cuddles,
To help soothe you when troubled.
Nearby, I promise to always stay,
Because another dad made me this way.
