THE HONESTY MEME

Y'all will have to excuse me while I do some momentary whining.

Today was probably the SINGLE MOST IRRITATING DAY I have had in my entire freaking life. It's not like anything even happened that was horrific or tragic or terrible or anything, just a lot of little annoyances that add up to me being cranky right now.

On top of that, I got a $20 parking ticket because my meter ran out because I didn't have enough change because I didn't have cash to turn INTO change because the ONLY Chase ATM on campus was broken. AAARRRGH.

Okay, whining over.

Tonight I am doing some more food-experimenting with a recipe out of one of the cookbooks I got for Christmas (specifically, the stir-fry one). I am making CHINESE BEEF AND SNOW PEAS. I'm a little concerned about how flavorful it's going to be, because all it has on it is soy sauce and ginger, and then the meat's simmered in beef stock/more soy/sesame oil. I do like that I'm now well-versed enough in cooking and flavors and how they interact with one another that if I want to make it more interesting, I can, pretty easily.

School is still dragging slowly along. Nothing exciting going on there, it's school.

Um... I think that's about it. My life is so preoccupied by Boring School right now that I don't have a lot else going on.

FAIR WARNING: EXTREME RAEG AHEAD

So I've spent the last, like, two months dying of excitement over this Epic Chef Battle thing on Food Network with Emeril Lagasse and Bobby Flay and Mario Batali and the White House Executive Chef all cooking for Michelle Obama.

It was on tonight, while I was at Repo rehearsal - for a show that I can't even do, by the way, I was really just there because I made a commitment to always be there.

So I get home tonight all excited for it to be my turn to have the TV so I can watch my Epic Chef Battle. I am SO FUCKING PSYCHED about it,you guys, you have no idea. (Okay, maybe you have sort of an idea, if you know me a bit.)

And lo and behold, IT ISN'T ON THERE.

I take a moment to digest this. Then I go into the DVR menu and see that the program didn't record because it was "canceled by the viewer."

............ what.

Come to find out, somehow or another one of my parents "accidentally" canceled my recording.

See, here's how it works, for those of you who aren't familiar with DirecTV-DVRs. You can only record and/or watch two programs at a time. Which means that if you're watching, say, USA, and the DVR is set to record programs on ABC and Food Network, the DVR has to change to one of those two channels in order to record both of those programs. You can only stay on USA if you cancel either the show on ABC or the show on Food Network. When this happens, the DVR pops up a little notice in the bottom corner of the screen and says something like "The recorder needs to change momentarily to [231 (FOODHD)] in order to record "Iron Chef America." If you do not change the channel, the recording will be canceled." You can either select "OK, Change Channel" or "Cancel Recording." (Or something to that effect.)

Evidently, what happened here was that one of my parents saw that little notice and either just didn't even bother to read it before they told it not to change the channel (because they were watching reruns of NCIS); or they read the thing, saw that it wanted to record Iron Chef America, and whether they gave it much thought or not decided that it didn't need to change and record my program.

I mean, we go through this all the fucking time. They are constantly canceling my recordings so they can either watch or record old episodes of procedural dramas, and neither of them seems to recognize that MAYBE THAT'S NOT OKAY.

Am I being totally irrational for being angry about this? Because I feel like I could commit some serious violence right now.

edit: on the other hand, my mood icon is giving me a serious case of the giggles.

Still sniffly and snotty and sneezy and congested today. Say it with me now: eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwww. I am so ready to be done with this whatever-it-is.

Especially because I'm supposed to be going shopping with Ashley to get supplies and groceries for our New Year's party. How am I supposed to have fun doing that if I have to stop to blow my nose every thirty seconds? I ask you. Also, not wild about the idea of cooking while my sinuses are in rebellion, in case it's actually a bug of some kind. In theory, I could just get a mask and some gloves, but that's a tremendous hassle. x__x

I know there are at least a couple of you on my flist who will be pleased to know that while languishing in the throes of my Benadryl-induced stupor last night I watched several episodes of Doctor Who! The Ninth, to be more specific. The guy who was Charles Dickens is the same guy who was Andre in the Phantom movie!

Hmmn. That's all, really, I think. Not a lot going on here today.

Just in case you guys weren't aware.

HARRY POTTER COMES OUT THIS WEEK

I bought my midnight-showing tickets today 8) I'm going with my mom and my friend Tatum. I am unbelievably psyched. chambrofsekrits is doing a Movie Premiere costume contest, which I am totally entering because I always dress up anyway (specifically, this year, as Ginny). I'm working on rereading the book, so I've got it all fresh in my head when I actually see it.

Right now I am watching a food styling competition on Food Network and suffering horribly because my 10:00 rule is in effect and I can't eat anything and Food Network is, as all college students know, porn for hungry people.

(As a direct result of this, tomorrow morning I'm going to the grocery store and buying eggs and making myself some scrambled eggs with salt/black pepper/dill and Monterey jack and possibly some paprika.)

Also, I haven't checked my flist in like two and a half days. I'm sorry, my dears, I'm a terrible flister.

So I haven't updated in forever... oops.

I'm FINALLY done with summer classes. I managed to pull out As in both history and math, so my parents are letting me drop the summer 2 term class I was supposed to take so I can get an actual break. I'm going over to Richland to do that today.

In other news, Friday is a Harem party day! 8D 8D 8D kyatto, hoozilla, comiter, deaths_guardian, Heidi, and Clause are all coming over and we're gonna hang out for a day. I am very excited because the whole group of us hasn't all been in the same place at once in Idon'tevenknowhowlong.

I've been watching Merlin as it airs on NBC. It's completely historically inaccurate and deviates wildly from the original legend, but somehow... I LOVE IT ANYWAY. And I think I ship everything there is to ship, no joke.

I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things at entranceway and thecityrpg. Playing in two games at once isn't nearly as difficult as I always thought it would be. Actually, I like it, it gives me more opportunities for different kinds of interactions.

We're changing the lock on our house. Kimmie doesn't get a key. If she decides to take off and try to come home when no one is here to let her in... well, that's her problem. We're pretty much done catering to her lunacy at this point. We're also just going to go to Washington DC without her - even if we could get her to go, she'd bitch and whine and make everyone miserable the entire time. Again: her loss.

I'm starting to put together a mental list of things I'll be able to cook in the dorm this fall. I'm like 98% sure we'll have a stove, so that I'm not worried about, but I have no idea if we get an oven or not so I'm trying to think of things I can make without one.

Right now I'm watching Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I had forgotten how deliciously silly this movie is.

edit: By the way - remember how Hotmail was buggering up on me, and I left them that extremely angry message about how they better fucking help me on their support forums? Well, the first person to respond said they'd checked my account and the address was on my Safe Senders list (well no shit, idiot, because I moved it back there) and the second just said "I assure you that our system does not move e-mail addresses from your safe senders list to your blocked senders list."

AAAAAAGHHHHH WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR ME TO GET HELP FOR THIS??

Feeling a lot better today than I have for the last couple of weeks. I honestly think it's my hair. lmao I'm such a spaz.

I made potato skins for dinner last night which were FUCKING DELICIOUS. I am pleased with myself. Might doctor up some canned tomato sauce and do ravioli for dinner tonight if everyone's going to be home.

My friend Katie's bachelorette party is on Friday night. We're going to this fucking awesome Mexican restaurant called Cristina's and then going bowling. Rachelle and Emily and Kristin are going to come hang out with me that afternoon and then we're all going to go over there together, and then they're going to come back and spend the night at my house 8D I'm excited.

On a similar note, I found out yesterday my friend Tina from high school is engaged. She just graduated from MIT and apparently she's now off in Germany on some kind of deeply brilliant project involving aerospace engineering or something.

It makes me feel old that everyone I know is getting married x___x

Dreading telling my mom I got a D in government from Professor Fuckhead. I am like 98% sure I should have at least gotten a C in that class, especially after that assignment that he changed the rules on later, but she's going to make it into this thing about how I did bad on purpose to "punish" the teacher because I "didn't like him." whatever, mom.

Aaaand I think that's all. :x

edit: MORE FUTURAMA, THEY'RE MAKING MORE FUTURAMA, YOU GUYS!!! LOOK!!!!!!

omg my day, it is made

edit2: omg I just found out Matthew Gray Gubler is in 500 Days of Summer. I did not think it was possible to be even more excited about this movie but I am.

daikenkai and her friend come in today \o/

I feel good about how much work I got done last night. I did all my reading and wrote a response on it for extra credit for cultural studies, I finished a government project that's not due til next Thursday (and turned it in just now), and I finished all of my math homework for chapter 6 so I can take the test early tomorrow.

And I made marinara sauce from scratch! :D

Actually, dinner was really tasty last night, we had stuffed shells and garlic bread. I'll post my recipes for everything later if y'all want!

I'm developing another of those weird headaches this morning. I'm starting to wonder if it's not some combination of the antibiotics + the Mucinex D + my allergy medicine + the caffeine in my tea. I don't understand why it would be, because I've been taking that same combination of stuff for the last week and the headaches only started a couple of days ago, but I have no idea what else it could be, either. On the other hand, I feel like surely it can't be the antibiotics + Mucinex + Zyrtec, because the doctor who prescribed the antibiotics and Mucinex knew I was taking Zyrtec and surely she would have said something if it was going to all make my head explode. FFFFF IDEK.

Ginny's paid account expires in a couple of weeks. I'm kind of thinking I'm going to let it. I pretty much never use the account anymore, and I desperately want more icons for my Terra account and I can't really afford three paid accounts. It's kind of a sad thought, though. I've had that paid account for her for... I don't even know how long. Most of the time that I've played her. I guess all things have to come to an end, though, right? And maybe it's just time.

edit: I totally just got my bank account set up with Chase so that I can text a number and they'll send me my account balance, due dates for payments, etc. Man I love technology sometimes.
mean girls: i'm a mouse

That five things meme again

from kyatto

1.) Ginny
I RP'ed Ginny at bnf_brawl for about two and a half years. I've actually moved her over to echoesoftime now, but I haven't been active there in uhh. A while. >>;;
Anyway, Ginny's always been one of my favourite Harry Potter characters, ever since Chamber of Secrets came out (and I started shipping her with Harry, haha!). I was really glad when Rowling started developing her character more and giving her a real personality.

2.) Beast Boy/Terra
LOL I didn't even know she knew I shipped this! XD But I do. Rabidly. Since like. The second "Terra" premiered. >> IT'S JUST SUCH A CUTE SHIP. And it's totally canon, too, so ha.

3.) Crazy Pinako
Thaaaaaaaaaaanks Edo. -___-

4.) baklava
I made baklava once. It was DELICIOUS. And I think I sent some home with Edo and Trisha at one point when I did it.
idk I'm just amazing like that.

5.) shoes
We've been over this. XD I have a shoe problem. I have way more than any one person can conceivably do anything with, which is doubly silly considering that I wear the same three or four pairs most of the time.
Except shoes are just so amazing. Why would you not want to have them?

House is so, so addictive. Joel Grey guest-starred in episode three and Ricky Ullman in episode five! :D

Linzi came over today and we made "Muddy Buddies." It is Rice Chex with chocolate and peanut butter and powdered sugar all over it and oh god it is so yummy. Then we went to Picasso's for dinner. Mmmmmm, pizza.

I did NOTHING productive today. It was AWESOME.

I'm thinking about joining a new RP called Not Forgotten over at InsaneJournal. The rules are a loooot stricter than Brawl, it's not a crack RP, so if I do join it'll be a totally different experience. If I do join it'll be as Angelina Johnson; I've had them put a hold on her for me, since someone already grabbed Ginny. *pout*

...problem is, though, we're not allowed to use models for PBs. Suggestions, anyone?

Ummmmm. That's all!

I have no music rec for you today because I suck whee.
