Helpful Writing Exercises

How's the new year so far? Are you more inspired to write this year, or are your muses hiding from the cold? *g*

Below are some helpful writing exercises seen at let_us_suffer. Just click on the links to see more!

Exercise #17

Dreams are very useful in fiction, as well as fun to write. Sometimes we use dreams to give verisimilitude– they are, after all, a part of life. They can also be used to show a character's mood or even to make a point, as a sort of allegory in the mind of a character. Write a dream for a character in a piece of fiction you are writing or planning.

Exercise #34

I am too short to see the top of the table. I stand on my tip toes. I see.....

Exercise #51

If you are having trouble with a piece of prose, try these exercises to think of it as a whole:

1) If my piece (story, chapter, essay, novel) were an object small enough to hold in my hands, what would it be? An orange? A cage with a cricket in it?
2) My piece is a boat. I imagine it launching, and its journey, and where it ends up. Is it on a river, an ocean? a lake? What kind of boat? Weather?

Plot Faerie Meme

I think it's high time to recycle the Plot Faerie Meme

Inspired by danceswchopstck

1. Choose a favorite fairy tale, folklore, fable, myth or legend
2. Name 5 things about it that feed or spark your creativity.
3. Name 5 things about it that you wish had been done differently.
4. Brainstorm a different universe where you keep something like the first five and take a good stab at fixing the next five. What kinds of stories arise there?
5. Start one story outline and see if the plot faerie blesses it.

Plot Faerie Meme

Happy New Year's everyone! :-)

To get your creative juices flowing, here's a meme inspired by danceswchopstck

I'm going to try using this meme for major rewriting of "Dragon Dreams" (my Harry Potter adaptation "Sleeping Beauty").

So comment here and share what you plan to write ;-) (And post it here if you're done, of course)
