Life goes quickly

I visited my 89-year-old grandmother yesterday. It was my cousin Vickie's idea. She does a better job of engaging grandmother's difficult to reach memories. At first, grandmother didn't even know what she'd had for lunch. Near the end of our visit, she could remember who I was and funny things I'd done as a child.

One thing she said as she trailed off while looking at pictures stuck with me.

"Life goes quickly"

It's going to be like that isn't it? I could live another 42 and it's not going to feel any longer when it's over.

Thinking of y'all

I responded to an old friend about an old problem today...

"Pat's correct. We're in Squaw Valley in Tahoe.

I lose contact with everyone. It's not that I love them any less. It's just that when they're not part of my day-to-day, I don't know what to talk about. I have friends up here and we keep each other up-to date. What do you say to old friends that you haven't spoken to in a year? "What's new?" It's just hard to stay in touch.

I email the people that I have to. I don't sit down and write thoughtful emails any more than I sit down and write thoughtful letters.

So, I hear ya. And I don't have a solution either. Do you blog? (http://mobill76.livejournal.com/) That's worked out well for me. I post very general updates and anyone who's interested can read and comment. Heck, I've got a whole separate circle of friends that I only know through blogging. I've even referred one of them to Jon for counseling.

Diversity AND Mission at Epiphany. I think that's it. We can find one or the other. Never both. I know that I learned a lot by having to deal with everyone as fellow believers at Epiphany. And, you know, I was never completely satisfied at Epiphany. I always felt like there was an outreach missing that I could be valuable to. I was always looking for another church. I never could commit. But what I wouldn't give to find an Epiphany now!

Thank you for your offer of choral amnesty. If I ever find my way back there again, I'll take you up on it. I'm sure you're doing a great job, regardless.

Staying in touch (for now)
Bill"
