Listens: I Just Know - Disciple

And another thing!

You're not a heretic.

How do I know?

Because I'm one and I've never seen you at the meetings.

Maybe we're not Christians. Maybe we don't want to be. I'm getting over it, too.

I've been trying to bludgeon my way into mainstream Christianity for about (Wow!) 14 years now. They will not have me. I'm getting tired of trying. It's hard to help a church face the 21st century when they won't let you in the door. Why am I defending them anyway? For the most part, they really are the hypocritical, judgmental, self-righteous, ultra-conservative, repressive, head-in-the sand throwbacks that their critics say they are.

But they profess Christ. And I just can't get that out of my head. That's the single most important, defining thing about me. And those assholes share it. I've always said that an idea is not responsible for the people who believe in it. Can't go back on it now.

Maybe they should burn you at the stake. They've burned everyone else who's ever really believed. You keep preaching that Love and Truth stuff, you're gonna upset the whole applecart. They'd have to go back to caring for widows and orphans and being unconformed to the world.

Yes, they should burn you. It's a simple matter of self-defense. If that's a problem, you really should get out of the preaching business.

But don't kid yourself that God has turned his back on you. God is not mammon. God didn't turn his back on Stephen. Stephen took up work that the "real" apostles wouldn't stoop to do. The battle shifted and Stephen found himself alone at the front. Alone except for a saviour and a faith that he couldn't repent of.

Even Jesus wondered if He'd find faith on the earth at His return.

You're alright. And if you get swallowed up and drown in the mire that you're preaching to, you're still alright. God never promised us success on this earth. He said we'd have what we need. If we need courage to die, it'll be there. If we need satisfaction in poverty, it'll be there. If we need wisdom with our great wealth, it'll be there.

Remember when Elijah thought he was the last of the faithful and about to go down? God told him that there were 7 thousand more lunatics and heretics. They probably weren't as vocal as Elijah. Or maybe they watched Elijah's career with interest were inspired to hang on. You never know who's watching you.

It is dark. You are alone against your city. But I think you will stand. Something in you smacks of that martyrs' faith. Something tells me that you've been alone before and you will wait for the dawn one more time. You're a warrior. You deserve a better death.

Me and 6999 other lunatics love you dearly. Get some rest.
