"STANFORD, Ky. -- Dr. Harry Hunter, 59, Stanford, formerly of Henderson, died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was a member of Stanford Baptist Church. He was a minister who had pastored in Henderson and was also the chaplain for Tyson Foods. He was a Vietnam War U.S. Marine Corps veteran. "

The best preacher I've ever heard in the state. And that's all he got in his old hometown's newspaper.

The last time that I joined a church was 11 years ago and he was the pastor. We had some things come between us but I've never known anyone else like him. He was a brave man. He believed bravely. He was not a preacher of the "do what I say, not what I do" school. He didn't so much preach the gospel as admit it. Slowly and deliberately, he would relate the scriptural basis for what his own life had taught him. As if, God had his arm twisted behind his back and was making him say it.

He had been a marine. He was a very, very sharp individual. I don't think faith came easily for him. But when it did, it owned him, body and soul.

His personal life was a bibliography for what he said from the pulpit. It was a privilege to know him and his family personally. It is an honor to have been his friend. I truly mourn those who never met him.

Rest, Harry. Your words were His words and His words shall not pass away.
