I saw this question over on Fandom Secrets and thought it deserved a little attention.

Are there any ancient (probably deleted) fics that are still stuck in your brain?

Something you loved? Hated? An idea so intriguing it fired your imagination? A loved pairing? A pairing you never considered before? Something else?

I remember reading a few that stuck in my head and still do to this day. Several actually. But the one I'm sharing today is Egg by Jane St Claire

Under 300 words and took my imagination to the most interesting places.

How about you?

I have been lucky in my packrattedness… if I read a story I really liked, I’ve typically copied and pasted into a Word document and saved it. So whenever I semi-remember a fic, I can go back and wallow in that pairing again until I find it. It’s very satisfying.

My flashes lately have been of my own wips, so many and most not begun posting, and thinking about a particular one and oh that was a good idea and how far had I gotten on it? Should I pull it up and see if I can add more to it? Maybe finish it?!? But I have those flashes without resulting action, so that’s a bit frustrating. But still, I think I’ve had some nice ideas.

I don't remember the title of the fic or who wrote it, but I'll never forget the story. (It was in the Sentinel fandom.) It was very well-written, but dark and painfully sad and not something I'd ever want to read again. Every once in a while it slips back into my mind and depresses me all over again.

I wish I could dislodge that one. It's too sad.

I read a TS story like that as well! It was very well written but so saddening.

Also, there's a couple of popular (old) SGA stories that depress me for different reasons. Sometimes, when people write stories using clones/au dimensions of the characters, they treat them as disposable because there's always another one for the OTP to be with. But my heart breaks for the disposables.

I agree about the seemingly disposable characters. Heartbreaking. I've never managed to do it. In the past I've saved Rodney clones and robot!John, because I couldn't bear to let them go.

I was recently thinking of Loch Ness's Highlander story, written long before AO3 and posted on their own web site. It's set in WWII, with the AU only being that Duncan and Method met during that time. I remember it as great WWII-ness, not on the battlefields but what was happening around it in places like Malta. It's also Methos doing a very slow introduction of gay sex for Duncan, and an ending that ultimately didn't leave me happy. But I would try that story again in a heartbeat. It was called And Then Some. I think it's no longer on line.
