MEI Security Fellowship Program

The MEI Security Fellows Program aims to cultivate the next generation of leaders in Middle East security studies by providing exceptional individuals with opportunities for engagement with senior policymakers, mentorship from leading experts, and contribution to in-depth research. A cohort of 20-25 mid-career professionals will participate in this yearlong, part-time professional development fellowship centered around thematic group sessions.

Each seminar will feature guest speakers with senior experience across the Executive and Legislative branches of government, the civilian and military ranks of key regional US partners, the Washington think tank community, and academia. In addition to obtaining unique perspectives on leadership, policy debates, and decision-making, added emphasis will be placed on building key writing and communication skills. Fellows with the availability and interest will also have opportunities to draft or contribute to articles posted on the MEI website.

MEI’s Security Fellowship Program is directed by Senior Fellow Jason Campbell and open to US citizens between the ages of 25-40 and with at least 7 years of professional national security or foreign policy experience. The program will provide mentorship and writing opportunities. Fellows can expect to hear from leading political and military experts and practitioners, including members of MEI’s Distinguished Military Fellows and Distinguished Diplomatic Fellows. There is no cost to participate in the program, though Fellows will be responsible for transportation to and from program seminars and events in Washington, DC. In addition to the monthly seminars, Fellows will participate in a full-day excursion in the National Capital Region. Attendance at all events is not compulsory, but candidates should expect to be available for the majority of program events.
