majolineOkay everyone, the Mississippi personhood amendment is bad news.
How bad do you say? Well, the immediate consequences are:
1) a spontaneous miscarriage will be a death penalty sentence (already there are three women on trial for first degree murder)
2) BC will be completely illegal here (anyone want to help me out with my PCOS meds?)
3) Our one, count 'em, one abortion clinic will go away
4) several states are looking to introduce identical bills (by that I mean they already exist in draft)
5) the PAC running the outfit will try again and again - their goal is to criminalize pregnancy for people they don't like (because we all know how well laws are enforced) in all 50 states.
This law has nothing to do with abortion and has everything to do with pregnancy. Best case scenario: When you are pregnant, of a child you desire, every single minute, you will be under the same sort of scrutiny as a person out on bail accused of manslaughter. Until your child is born, you could through no fault of your own, find your SO widowed, your children orphaned, and no life insurance for them - because you basically committed murder-suicide.
Or worse - you lost the child you so desperately wanted and are now a felon... IN MISSISSIPPI. I hope you like chain-gangs until your execution.
