Compelling but unfinished, a love letter with a faded signature. Many pieces of a puzzle some of which were too big and some too small. Moments in this film that I wish had breathing room - mostly tearful emotional breaks - had no breaks within them, action sequences clunked and clamored for attention for an audience that is neither new gen nor old. Additions were made that extend beloved tropes and storylines, but some additions concerning race have no mirrors…
I’ve watched this movie 10 times. I’m playing tennis with my braincells and every watch is me smacking myself with a racket. 10/10
Dev Patel should be sweatier in most films, but on a scale of the Sahara to Flashdance, this is a 9/10
