I don't like being happy.
This is further proof that Chloé Zhao is simply not a good director. Even aided by Łukasz Żal's typically incredible cinematography, Zhao takes a potentially interesting subject and cheapens it into insipid melodrama. This is compounded by the lazy decision to use that Max Richter piece that has been recycled in media for the past fifteen years in the finale (yes I know Richter did the music for this, doesn't make a difference imo).
She cannot even yield a good performance from the usually solid Jessie Buckley, as Zhao seems unable to distinguish between acting and emoting.
