The poetry didn't quite work for me, in this quasi-meditative film about the Yangtze River, but this was beautifully shot, and quite the homage to the river. The framing may have been necessary to keep the viewer interest, though it was of little consequence. The cinematography and the journey up the river was enough to keep my attention.

Wheels really fell off the car towards the end of this one.
If someone described this plot to you, you’d think that there was no way that all of these different elements would work together, but, for most of the movie, it does work, until the end, at which it seems that Neil Jordan couldn’t quite figure out how to land the thing. However, much props for the attempt.
