This is so much worse than Without Limits and it’s not even close. Everything feels excessively staged and cheesy. This also relies excessively on archival footage adding to the made for TV thrown together feel.
You do learn a little bit more about the story and the hostage crisis here than in the other film, but it’s not really worth sitting through unless you are especially interested in Pre, track and field, or the hostage crisis. Tried my best to enjoy this but the amount of liberties taken plus the fifth grade level screenplay make that rather difficult.
> Startling and visually dazzling film. Timeless and prophetic. Emma Stone mentioned at the Bugonia Q&A with Julianne Moore, so added to top of watchlist.
> Moore as Carol puts on a masterclass of a downward spiral, just when you think she has hit the bottom she continues to implode inside herself.
> Xander Berkeley is excellent here as the stock husband character, but it’s Peter Friedman who steals the show as the spiritual cult leader character.
> The saddest part of this film…
R.I.P. Stan Rogers you were my favorite Canadian.
