Deranged mama's boy creates outcast daddy's boy amidst falling snow and cascading tulle.

Having so far only seen one of the Best Picture nominees for this year I decided to watch those readily available, only to immediately find myself reconsidering that choice.

The Thursday Murder Club
★★ Watched

Retirement home residents who look into cold cases for fun find themselves involved in a current murder investigation.

Exceedingly mediocre whodunnit full of plot contrivances and absurdly clumsy dialogue. I was hoping for an enjoyable little cozy mystery but this is too brainless to qualify. Even the usually excellent cast is a disappointment, with the exception of the lovely Jonathan Pryce.

Found families, processing loss, and finding grace in one's approach to one's self and others. Warmly curmudgeony and makes for a pleasant Christmas movie. The snowy setting and the seventies' stylings look great, but the faux film grain sadly reminds me of what we've lost.

I was distantly reminded of the lovely Nobody's Fool, which I should probably watch…
