• "life is short" he says to himself in the mirror during his haircut, one of the life's dullest and most monotonous rituals
•"volvo" translates from latin as "i roll." somehow manages to be sisyphean and punny, although im not sure if the "eye roll" gag actually translates to swedish
•positioning him as munch's scream as he tries to determine whether or…
beautifully shot and elegantly structured. crafting the biopic around Dongju's poetry could have been corny in the wrong hands, but Lee Joon-Ik smartly selects poems that obliquely evoke the narrative, as well as poems that simply lend words to quiet moments in Dongju's life—a train ride, or a late night walk. the torture sequences are a bit too monotonous and melodramatic for their own good, but the meat of the film is exceptional
