I remember when this movie came out and eventually became a cable television staple. My father, who was a fairly eccentric character, watched it randomly and it light a fire in him. A couple months later he had started his own computer telemarketing scheme. Now, I had no idea my father even knew what a computer was at the time. When I asked him about it he said “Two months ago, I saw a provocative movie on cable TV. It…

Night of the Juggler

Night of the Juggler is an absolute blast of dynamite, shot from a cannon and boosted by nitrous oxide. A nonstop thrill ride of the dirtiest streets, overtly racist citizens, sex maniacs, street gangs, law bending cops and deranged kidnappers that late 70’s/early 80’s New York City had to offer. It simply never lets up. James Brolin never relents in pursuit of his daughter even with every conceivable system against him. I had a blast with it the first time

Dredd

I’m not quite as into this as a lot of people seem to be. Dredd is very serious for such a silly concept and the digital effects can be wonky. However, it certainly doesn’t skip on the ol’ ultraviolence and there are plenty of visceral thrills. The 4K discs Atmos track really gave my system a workout.

Abel Ferrara should have been nominated for an Academy Award. The bathtub scene alone……

Eddington

When I watched Eddington last year, there were a lot of things I liked while also having a huge issue with the lack of clarity about its political pov. I still have that issue a year later but Eddington really does convey the insanity of the current world better than any movie I can think of. We are all powerless, internet addicted idiots who refuse to concede that we are these things. Well, not me. I concede it. Hopefully time will be as kind to me as it has to this very funny, flawed and totally normal movie.
