The intertextuality between this film and Vincenzo Latronico’s Perfection…

Laughed more than I thought I would and had fun too. Like, yeah it fails at the level of social critique of gun violence but I don’t really see it as a serious attempt at one, or rather I refuse to take it seriously on that level. I think it’s an amusing take on millennial aspiration - scratch beneath the surface of a successful heterosexual couple living in a gorgeous aesthetic-as-a-twitter-noun…

Sorry, Baby

I am always taken by art that confronts violence without relying on gratuitous depictions of it. The gap between plot and story is filled, I think, by the knowledge that all violence is social. I do not need to see violence to dread it, to recognise the evidence of its imminence and occurrence, to grieve its consequence. The fact of its ubiquity is enough to fill, in your imagination, the gap left on screen or on the page.

Sorry, Baby does this…

Hackers of the world unite!

This ATEEE. The cinematography in 90s independent film was truly something else, feels difficult to imagine an independent feature today that would be as committed to style. The visualisation of the internet is so playful, you forget the counter-hegemonic, anti-establishment hopes that were pinned on to it back in the day. I loved how queer (and trans?) this was, I loved the 90s diversity (bring it back!!!!!), I loved the house & electronics soundtrack - yes, even the ~tribal rhythms~ - and I loved how sexy Angelina jolie is in this.

Also, I get cyberpunk now.
