About a Boy
★★★★★ Rewatched

another comfort rewatch. I absolutely adore this film - expertly contained, early 2000s London, young Nicholas hoult shines. I love this film because it is, very simply, about a man who realizes he needs other people - something about that really tugs on my heart strings. When I first watched this I thought Toni Collette was British !!!!

“That’s the thing, if other people can make you happy, they can also make you unhappy.”

The Matrix Reloaded
★★★★★ Rewatched

Bullied everyone into watching this at film night. Quoted entire sections from memory. Glorious. Sublime. Smiled the whole way through, Lily & Lana you will always be famous.

The Drama
★★★ Watched

The fact that the whole cinema was IJBOL’ing throughout this whole thing speaks to the laziness of the writing in portraying a uniquely American sickness………. I was too entertained ?

This did make me think about people’s capacity to change & how not really believing in a predestined or immutable idea of evil takes whatever is supposed to be shocking about this away.

race, class AND gender were nowhere to be seen, I was not even offended that Emma was a black woman & trust me I was trying to be 🫠

(I was too aware at all times that I watching zendaya & Robert Pattinson)

Hackers
★★★★ Watched

Hackers of the world unite. This is the matrix for highschoolers - I always think of the Wachowskis as singular but it’s nice to remember they had contemporaries. v sleek & campy, I forget how gay 90s movies are. Crazy what passed for an accurate visualization of the internet in the 90s, we’ve strayed so far from god’s light. Some very beautifully composed shots, they just don’t make average films of this quality anymore. This made me think of Aaron Swartz & my friend Agnes.

I was so distracted by Angelina Jolie every time she came on screen - a GENERATIONAL face card.
