One of our days in Wales included a trip to the seaside. My brother and I had been to Aberystwyth before as children, but it was a first for abrinsky and for my niece and nephew.
beach!
Though bright, it was chilly and windy, certainly not a day for paddling.
timeless
Sitting on a bench on the seafront, eating our packed lunches and admiring the prettily painted houses, we felt as though we were in the 1970s. Or the 1950s. Or any time that wasn't the 21st century, really.
the other way
where it all started
After an entire childhood of being dragged around Wales, I vowed I would never take another holiday there. Then, enticed by an enthusiastic tweet, we watched
Hinterland earlier this year. And a rainy, wet Aberyswyth, full of murder and repression, appealed so much that we were inspired to book a holiday after all. This building was the police station in
Hinterland. We spent a while idly fantasising about buying it (because it's cool, not because of the TV connection).
On the way back to the car we turned a corner and were suddenly staring at this impressive building.
Old College
One of the things we learned on this holiday is that children are not enthusiastic about spending hours poking around a town and photographing its interesting buildings. It was a strange experience to visit somewhere for little longer than the time it took to drive there.
