Sky #oftheday

First, very welcome, yoga class of the year. Feeling rather old and feeble, though, with the tennis elbow, compressed nerve, and neuroma. Also feeling that it might be time for me to work on strength as well as flexibility, given that flexibility is one of my problems. But I hate going to the gym. And I am an abject failure at getting motivated to exercise at home. Dilemma.

I can't fit in yoga and a walk, but I had to go to the postbox this afternoon, and that short time outside was just enough to feel like a walk.

Mostly today I have been grumpy at rubbish clients. But the one I emailed at the end of the day pointed out that the problem giving me conniptions is actually an error on my part and everything is okay really. I'm eager to investigate tomorrow morning, and I do hope they're right. *hopes reallyreally hard*

First abandoned book of the year: Abroad: Book One by Liz Jacobs was not working for me. I didn't engage with the characters and completely bounced off the writing style. (Sorry Katie.)

Learning to make string has been on my list for ages, mostly as a thing I could do with found materials in odd moments, and as a way of creating mementos while travelling.

I watched a few youtube videos this afternoon, where it seems mostly to be presented as a survival skill, and set to with a pile of ends snipped off abrinsky's blanket. I can never bear to throw away all those little pieces of yarn, and now my insane hoarding thrift is justified. On the other hand, I probably won't be making nettle rope any time soon, or stripping and macerating willow bark.

Today I taught myself to make string. #wastenotwantnot #survivalskills

abrinsky is not well, but it's just a head cold, not full-blown man flu. That's good because he's doing outreach for work tomorrow, lecturing a former colleague's university students in the afternoon. I know she's looking forward to it, and it would be a shame if he had to cancel. He did manage a walk with me this morning.

This morning I read a freebie novella, Christmas at the Wellands by Liz Jacobs, and found it quite charming. It's just as well I enjoyed it, since I was recently persuaded to purchase a novel by the same author *narrows eyes at [personal profile] soupytwist*

It's a supermoon and the biggest full moon we'll have in 2018. Also the first of two full moons this month.

We missed most of today's rain on our morning walk, but decided not to take our newly constructed pinhole camera out on its first adventure, because cardboard.

let's build a camera )

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of things I could have usefully done today in anticipation of going back to work tomorrow, but I didn't do any of them. Mostly I have been racing to finish a crocheted blanket for abrinsky, while listening to the audio version of J A Baker's The Peregrine which I found hypnotically beautiful. Bloody and violent, but so poetic. I think it was a good choice to read this one with my ears, allowing me to surrender to the language, drifting on its currents, circling around thoughts and feelings.

The blanket is not quite complete, but the book is finished, my first of the year. Maybe I'll reconstruct the list of all my readings and watchings in 2017. Or maybe I can't be bothered to look backwards. We'll see.
